The Darklands manual mentions a werewolf, but I have never seen one. A Google search didn't bring up any werewolf screenshots. Was it cut from the game? Has anybody ever seen one?

Werewolves exist as an encounter with particularly beastial warriors. They never transform - at least they look like regular human enemies.
I see. I thought they would be classic werewolves (anthropomorphic wolves and/or huge wolves).
Ya, there were quite a few things like that did not make it in the end. I would have loved to have seen werewolves and undead (e.g., period-correct vampires) included in the pantheon of horror. Evenso, I think the game already makes more of witches than would have been correct for the period -- depending on who you talk to, nor or then. The craze didn't really get going until later in the century, and the puritanical hysteria later on. I've read a little lately that the Wild Hunt may be more from the imagination of later centuries as well. I'm reserving my opinion on that one for now, until I can learn more. It would have been nice to encounter some local flare-ups of the plague to flee now and then as well. And maybe get a ride/job on a Hanseatic cog to protect them from N. Sea/Baltic pirates. You never get to fight river pirates, for that matter, either. Hmmm. But hey, it's still a load of fun, huh? I'm glad they made the effort to be as "historically accurate" as they did. :)

Cheer!

Btw- you do get to fight dire-wolves, aka Hell Hounds.
