I just learned that Darklands is now available from Good Old Games. If a PC game ever deserved to be called epic, this one does. The character creation process in it is a game unto itself. I remember pre-ordering Darklands in order to be among the first gamers to receive a retail copy in the mail from MicroProse.

I am not sure if anyone I know ever finished Darklands; it is such a huge game. All I am sure of is that I enjoyed every minute of it back in its day.

Real glad this made it. Just wish more games had the craft to provide such an authentic world instead of these 3D static worlds that look they came out from a factory line with no soul.
I spent an unbelievable number of hours on this marvelous game as I was growing up. The default party is a solid crew, but the fun really starts when you dive into making your own characters customized to your play style. A shame it never had a sequel; this is one game that deserved it.
Indeed. This has always been a favorite, so glad to repurchase it (if only for ease of install and not having to dig out stuff).
When GOG first started this was at the top of my list of games I wanted to see added. Anyone considering making a non-linear RPG of any depth needs to see how this game handled events/towns, especially in regards to personality attributes/skills. It actually kind of got social skills right, which even Fallout fell flat on its face on.

I did finish it once; if I recall correctly I did it with the default party, including a blue-haired Gretch. :)
So nice to see this! I still have the original box, discs and manual in my attic. Still... it's tempting to buy it from GOG as well. If there ever was a 'good old game', this is definitely it.
