Hi guys, I have this game on GOG, but I have definitely been jealous of all the mods on the Steam Workshop. I took the opportunity during the Steam free weekend that recently happened to download just a ton of them and back up the files. Does anyone know if these mods will work with the GOG version if I just drop the folders into the mod folder, as you do with Nexus mods? Any files I need to remove or alter? I did notice a few files in the folders that reference Steam.

EDIT: Just putting the mod's files into the mod folder works except it breaks the text. So far, I have not found a way to fix this. Apparently, for the sake of modders, the devs have included a localization.exe file that is supposed to compile xml files of strings for use in the game. However, the GOG version of this file does not work. Since I currently have the Steam files downloaded, I was able to get a copy of the working localization.exe from the Steam version. However, I am not sure how to use it. Where do I put it to use in on a mod? Should I copy it into the mod folder? Any advice is appreciated. Running it from its current location in the "localization" folder of the main game does not work.

I got you my pal here is what you must do:

Localization files for generating loc file

1) The zip file should have the full package for loc file (fmod.dll, fmodstudio.dll, glew32.dll, localization.exe, SDL2.dll, steam_api.dll, steam_emu.ini. Maybe your vaccine program diagnose those as virus, but it's false positive. I double checked it)
2) Delete modfiles.txt and loc2 files used for your mod.
3) Put the aforementioned localization files inside the mod's localization folder.
4) Run localization.exe and see if loc files are generated. It is likely that there will be errors regarding colours.darkest file- refer to their directories below. Copy and paste them into colours folder and run them again, should the errors happen.
5) Put the prefix on for loc files; localization.exe generates loc files without prefix. If you apply those files without prefixes, you'll get an estate full of blue strings. (ex. 000001_english.loc)
6) Turn the game on, apply the mod and see whether blue strings turn up or not. If they don't, then the problem is solved.

base.colours.darkest: Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\colours
crimson_court.colours.darkest: Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\dlc\580100_crimson_court\colours
shieldbreaker.colours.darkest: Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\dlc\702540_shieldbreaker\colours
com.colours.darkest: Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\dlc\735730_color_of_madness\colours
(You'll have a different directory if you use different versions say, GoG or Epic, but it's straightforward.) important this only must be done if the mod had that color folder, if not dont worry

If you are playing on linux i can pinpoint what you must do, and if you dont have the loc file i can lend you one that has made miracles for me
got it to work, if anyone ever reads this, go to the darkest dungeon discord, in the modhelp there's a zipfile. the zipfile has the localization fix files in it along with the instructions. its a doosey but can confirm it works. i just got beastmaster setup.

I absolutely cannot believe the gymnastics to get this to work. why they abandoned the gog version is unbelievable. and nexusmods is like 4-5 years behind on mods for this game. what a joke.
