I'm starting to feel the grind coming along, and I'm not even at week 30 with only the Wizened Hag and the Brigand 8 Pounder killed.
I'm almost too afraid to go for another boss, because with the other two it took me two tries and that seems standard. I don't want to lose a good person :(

The first encounter - meet the boss, see what they do, then leave before you die miserably.
The second encounter - fuck them up with what you've learned... or die miserably.

Another problem is, once someone hits resolve 3, they don't bother with bosses so you need to grind someone else up to level 2 and pamper them before the boss encounter.

So, back to the title... has anyone finished it, or made it to the Darkest Dungeon? Is it as ridiculous as people describe it on the Steam forum?

I had Militia and leper at the front for damage, with grave digger and priest(?) at the back.
We camped beforehand to buff the militia and leper.

two front guys just concentrate hitting the cannon only, while the back two hit the guy who lights the cannon.
If I manage to kill the lighter with one person, then the other uses their move on the cannon as well.

at the end of each round the cannon will call reinforcement, so just rinse and repeat. Only once did I not kill the lighter, however I got lucky and the cannon actually did a 'misfire' to completely miss me.

The only way to win is basically scratch away with big hitters and keep checking off the 'lighter' each round. Attacking the two other men wastes moves, and you just need to absorb their hits. Once the cannon is gone, they take no time to kill :)

May be it is obvious but first of all try to harvest cash and heirlooms and avoid bosses. There is not benefit to face them early on. After upgrading your village to some decent level (weapons&armor + skills) create a new team, get them one level higher than the boss and give them all upgrades you can. Before the battle, camp for buffs, you can also use 4 holy waters for all to get some resistances. With this approach I had no bigger problem with any 1-3 level boss. The choice of characters is important too but you have already nice tips on that.

I told myself I will have little to no gaming related time during study periods... which happens to start on March 7 for 13 weeks.
What a kick to the manhood.

I am at 50th week and honestly, the grind is getting annoying. I have finished some Champion dungeon paths, but I need much more money than I currently have to equip at least one group to be ready for DD run. Lately I am barely playing, because I constantly get some hero leveled up to 3rd or 5th level, which ruins my party composition.

I'm at week 250. lol. Never beat the darkest dungeon yet. I've taken 4 treks into it, and each time have left with most of my team dead. Back to to team rebuilds, get a bunch of guys up to level 6 and try again. Yes, the grind is enough to drive you mad. I've beaten all the level bosses, but the darkest dungeon is a bit too dark for me so far.

Just completed my first dive into the DD. Went in with a Plague Doctor with a massively buffed stun skill, an Occultist, a Hellion on the front line and an Abomination who I held off on transforming until... well, let's just say that things were difficult, but very much manageable. Group stuns are your friend, especially in the DD. The good doctor cracked near the end, but the party held together and came out without a single one of them so much as going to Death's Door.

Meanwhile I am one Hag away from having a stab at the darkest of dungeons. I cannot figure out what party composition will let me take her on. >_<

For a couple bosses and delves I had the strategy of two crusaders on pos 2 and 3, jumping past each other to reach the back row with their lance stabs in tandem. (They also helped with destressing the party and minor heals.)

But the hag's thing is that she messes with your party arangement by putting people into her pot (which cannot be reasonably destroyed, or otherwise affected due to ludicrous resistances.)
She's in pos 3 and 4, so I thought that a jester in pos 2 (bleeeed) and plague doctor in pos 3 (stun/plague, but that's a low odds shot) might do it. With occultist in the back for weakening and heals. But what to put in the front? A Hellion for that iron swan? Would have to be given something to quickly get back to the front row after coming out of the cauldron.

And is that composition really sufficiently resistant against formation forkery once someone goes into the pot (repeatedly) and I only got 3 people to work with?

So far my attempts at her third form have not been met with success. :S

They shouldn't go in repeatedly; just ignore whoever is in the pot, unless they are a major damage dealer, like the Hellion buffed with Sharpen Spear and Battle Trance who should absolutely be at the head of the party. Other than that, go nuts.
