i'm running XP and get an uninformative "The Application has failed to initialize" error.
have not applied the 1.7 patch.

any suggestions??

Getting basically the same thing on Win 7 x64. Crashes on startup and have to manually start explorer to get icons and desktop back. I have the same vanilla gog.com version (ie no 1.7 patch).

Is the only fix for this error to install the 1.7 patch? Been over a month and still unable to play this game.
