As most of us who have played the Dark Fall games, we know that there is something undoubtly evil lurking in the Dowerton Station and the hotel.
But just what is the Dark Fall really?
Is it some sort of cosmic evil entity that wants nothing more then to satisfy its hunger for human souls?
Or is it something even more sinister?
What do you think?
The Dark Fall in Dowerton, for me, it's like the primordial evil. Not much of an explanation for what is does besides being evil.

Makes sense.
Its better that we guess on what it is rather then the game flat out telling us what it really is.
It builds up a mystery around it especially with the fact that there are ruins underneath the Dowerton Station Hotel that was apperantly made by beings that existed before man.

It's a different Dark Fall from the one in Lights out, where an explanation for its agenda is fully layed out in the game.

If you read between the lines, George Crabtree does tell you what it is in his journal. It's not an entity but the release of said entity, which he likens to darkness falling (as the particular entity he dealt with was evil, so much that it terrified him without ever having directly done anything to him).

Oliver Drake just happened to use the same term — probably an oversight by the author, but let's speculate and say it's because of the dark one's influence; Drake also somehow knew Malakai wasn't the first dark fall, and this was well before events in the Journal. He had more knowledge about the dark fall just from Malakai's influence than George could ever have hoped to attain… for better or worse. But I'm kinda rambling now.

EDIT:
Reading his last journal entry, George does refer to the entity as the Dark Fall, raising doubt on my previous statement (although it remains correct). Perhaps, after being under duress for three years, he got used to the term and started using it interchangeably.

SPOILERS FOR LIGHTS OUT...

I always wondered if somehow Malakai could have somehow caused the issues at Dowerton or even could have somehow created the dark fall. While there's little evidence the creator leaves it so open it can fit if you think about it. Malakai's attempts to get home created a lot of dark energy and nobody knows how far reaching some of that went. Also Lights Out shows us that time doesn't seem to have any affect on the affects to the environment, so the dark energy might stick around even though Malakai was helped.

for the record, I haven't played Lost Souls yet, so I don't know what that reveals.
