I played Lights Out, and when it showed the main screen, I started a new game. It said "1912" in white letters on a black screen. Then the letters faded and the screen was completely black except for a white cursor which I could move, and there was no sound.

I understand that the game is called Lights Out, but I didn't really expect it to be pitch black. I have trouble navigating in that I'm unable to move anywhere or do anything. It's really not a very interesting game at all. I honestly had higher expectations for it.

The main screen says that there's a "Director's Cut". Is that a different version of the game? Perhaps it would be more fun.

Hehe, the game should look like this:

Apparently it's crashing or it's a graphic glitch on your system.
Check these two support sections for general tips on crashing and launch issues:

http://www.gog.com/support/dark_fall_the_journal/crash_when_an_fmv_intro_or_cutscene_should_be_played

Unfortunately I can't test things right now, as GOG has got a small website issue and the game isn't for download at the moment - at least in my and some other's accounts.
Thanks, I'll try that out as soon as I get some time to play it (probably Thursday).
If anyone is still having this issue (black screen after starting new game) make sure you have quicktime installed.
It worked for me.
