Hi all, I'm a bit of a lurker, but been here awhile and this is the first time I've ever had an issue with a GOG game.

I just got the game working on Windows 7 Pro x86 (you know, compatibility mode, run as etc etc). No problems. I get to the first chance to save the game (as anyone who's played it knows, it doesn't come up straight away) and click the save button.

And then I get nothing. I can continue playing the game without problems but it doesn't ask for a save destination and obviously hasn't saved as I cannot load my previous progress.

I have enjoyed it as far as I played it, but I need the PC for things other than games during the day (shocking but true), so have to knock the game off.

Any ideas guys? I couldn't find a definite answer on here, but I might have missed it - if so, sorry!

Jo

Having ran this on three machines and checked the file structures - you CANNOT save on a Windows 7 machine.

The way this game accesses files and where it tries to put them, as well as the order it builds them in seems to be the cause. Unfortunately, I can only suggest creating a secondary boot of one of the older versions of Windows (such as XP or Vista) to get around this. Possibly a running it through an emulator might work, but having the extra partition just for old games without having to faff around is working better for me.

If anyone has a better way in regards to Windows 7 then please post! :)

I'm sorry you are having issues, but the game saves and loads perfectly on a Windows 7 machine. I have it installed atm on my Win7 64 machine and i can save and load without any issues. It works straight out of the box, the only thing i did after installing was ticking the 'run as admin' checkbox on the shortcut.

My version of Win7 64 is the Ultimate version and i keep UAC off.
Strange - maybe there's a difference between Pro and Ultimate? Having used both previously the differences appear minute so I'm surprised it works on that.

Well, I'm playing on Windows Vista 32bit on the older laptop now anyway, saves me changing my OS for the sake of one game :)

Thanks for the assist Namur! I give you the internet ;)
Unfortunately, as I posted earlier I already tried installation on Professional with run as admin and tried many different settings without any luck. Did a run through to see where it was trying to save to, and that file isn't there and cannot be created on my version of Windows 7 :(

Was going to sell the old lappy, guess it's saved itself from being sold for scrap :P

If you have been installing the game on the default "C:/Program Files" directory maybe try installing it elsewhere, something like C:/Games. Vista and 7 are excessively protective in regards to the Program Files folder, sometimes that causes issues.

Keeping the old lappy around is a good idea, i kept mine too for a few 'special' games ;)
