I hate to advertise, but I'm halfway through streaming a playthrough of Daikatana for you guys (See the "My Daikatana Stream" topic), and so far, the ai has helped me clear out a few waves of enemies and spot ones I missed, and the only thing that actually killed my game so far was a rare crash during the episode 2 boss fight. I didn't lose any progress either, since it crashed when Mikiko died.

If you want to see how the game is running now, the version GOG is selling here in 2013, running at 1280x720 widescreen, go check it out. :)
Daikatana v1.2 is quite playable. The question is whether its the right game for you. An unforgiving arcade style fps with a helper bot gimmick is kind of niche. Sidekicks sound like a good idea on paper but they're pretty fiddly in practice.
Not really, in GOG version they are kind of useful but don't expect something at F.E.A.R. level, lol. They still must be coordinated by commands half the time when their AI is not enough but that's what sidekicks commands are for. It can be just me but Superfly is better at cleaning ground targets, while Mikiko is more accurate at flying things.

This.
i had a smooth ride myself. maybe a few bugs, nothing game breaking that i remember at least.
I'd seriously consider getting it if I could be assured that most of the major issues had been fixed.
Just so you guys know, there is an option where you can save freely without those damn gems. I was most relieved when I discovered this, and it encouraged me to progress without any anxiety.
