So to be transparent, I am running this on pretty much my dream PC. I am running a custom texture package in 4k and it is like being on set in Blade Runner. I do realize that experiences vary. I am not even going to go into the spec requirements for the game. They are high, I knew they would be high. I was not disappointed even before I downloaded the reskin.
I rate this game at 5 stars. The basis for my rating is how it made me feel. And I only really had one litmus I wanted out of it. I have been involved with the Cyberpunk genre of fiction since 1985. I saw Tron in the theaters and immediately was tuned into what that was going to become. I owned the original Cyberpunk 2013 RPG. I hated the cliffhanger the short story 'Never Fade Away' ended on. I love the version of Bladerunner where Deckard narrates. I despise the updated Ghost in the Shell. To say I am devoted to the genre is not an understatement. My one thing I need delivered was could CD:R make me feel like I was on the street of Night City.
To that I have to say they exceeded expectations. I have run the range from feeling like Major Kusanagi on the back of Kaneda's custom BMW to Rick Deckard prowling the alleys with my Burya in search of of a skin-job ((cyberpsycho). I didn't need an Uplink/Tron 2.0 experience for the hacking. the ingame hacking feels right to me in a post R.A.B.I.D.S. world.
Were there problems and stuff that bugged? Yeah. It's middling as hell, I know, considering the problems some of our console siblings are having, but... the one thing that bummed me out was getting a text from the Valentino dude you box. he thanks you for letting him keep the money, and then asks how his wheels are doing. Bro. I let you keep that car, and you were going to name your kid after me. That shit can be fixed with a text message. I am bummed that it has not been.
There is other stuff. But at the end of the day, I trust CD:R. We have one of the best possible gaming communities in GoG. They give us a Workshop and a SDK for Cyberpunk.. man. I am telling you, none of this little shit is un-fixable. If you had a problem with the story, I get that. I passed a 'V' mural on the wall (a valentino reference), but that would be something that would totally be doable, and a nod to V's positive effect on the streets. Would also love to see a faction based system with the neighborhoods. There are tons of stuff like this I am sure that is just a line or code or two that will be implemented. Just gotta stay solid. yeah. It feels like a beta probalby to some of the people who have been waiting on it 9 years. But it's here. We got it. They worked hard to bring it to us. I for one am a true believer and it's only going to get more amazing if we can pony up a bit of loyalty to a company that is devoted to us. Not a difficult leap for me brothers and sisters. Anyway. if you got to the end of this wall of text, appreciate you. Will respond to anything that isn't an outright adhominem attack. -Koldz
