As I understand it, the game no longer works under Windows 7? Only the tenth version?

No, this isn't correct. The game is still working under Windows 7 SP1 like it has been since the launch.

This will slightly change however in June 15th, 2022 when the CDPR will drop support for Windows 7. The game might work after that on Windows 7 but they do not support it and future patches might break the game so that it will not work. So if you meet a bug which is Windows 7 specific after summer of 2022, then it's unlikely that you're going to get a fix for it. Furthermore there's a chance that CDPR might remove the Microsoft's D3D12onWin7 wrapper from the game.

That is understandable since some of the bugs in this game are because of buggy d3d11on12 implementation, buggy graphics drivers, less up to date C++ runtime and so on. Additionally graphics chip vendors do not supply new drivers any longer for Windows 7 since Microsoft doesn't support them (unless they pay a heafty sum of money for it). See this yourself from the changelog for the patch 1.5...

Kuroko: Due to technical limitations of non-native DirectX 12 implementation on Windows 7, and the end of, or limited, support for graphics drivers, game updates will not be supporting Windows 7 after June 15, 2022. If updated with patches published after that time, the game may stop working on this operating system.

Please also note that "d3d11on12" isn't and has never been a perfect solution with massive performance set-backs, bugs, memory leaks and glitches for running Cyberpunk 2077. However it has been "good enough" for people such as myself who view these setbacks acceptable because running Windows 10/11 is just worse experience overall in so many other ways for us. Or at least for me it is in my opinion. I cannot stand Windows 10 and especially not Windows 11. I'm extremely grateful for CDPR that they at least did this much for Windows 7 users.

A single game wouldn't and couldn't encourage me to upgrade to Windows 10 and 11 which I view as stinky pos burning oil platforms with ads attached to them. But Microsoft was pretty fair for putting out "d3d11on12". It has for example given enough time for people developing Valve's Proton to get the Cyberpunk 2077 up and running acceptable on GNU/Linux which runs the game remarkably well at the moment. So if you don't want to downgrade to Windows 10, then you could always install for example Manjaro Linux and run the Cyberpunk 2077 on it.

Thank you. So can you confirm that CP2077 patched to1.5 still runs on Windows7? I'm a little bit paranoid these days and I'll NOT upgrade to Win10 no matter what - no game is worth becoming a remote-controlled slave to a corporation.

Yes, I can confirm that. The Cyberpunk 2077 when patched to version 1.5 still runs on Windows 7 SP1.

But be aware that after patching to 1.5 version I encountered a bug which prevents me from launching the game from GOG Galaxy. Instead I just have to start the game from the install directory.

I'd recommend to keep a backup of the game files just in-case.

Why??? Windows 10 is awful spyware.
I can't believe people are still using Windows 7....

Throwing around "spyware" words is ridiculous as all telemetry can be disabled. ALL of it.

Get off Windows 7, it's not even supported by Microsoft anymore since 2020.

Thank you very much for the most constructive comment I have read about this game. These are the kind of comments that should be given preference, and not those that just try to force you to use what others want.

Sure, if you set your firewall to block all outgoing connections, then you can block ALL telemtry.

It's a bit annoying though: I've been doing since I bought my Win10 laptop, and installing software using a "web installer" can be a royal pain.

The less said about 1900s (i.e.,"modern") apps, the better.

you got till June 2022 to play Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows 7 till they pull the plug on support for the game on Windows 7 anyways.

That is incorrect.

You have until June 2022 to download the Windows 7 version of the game. And keep it forever and ever. Well, as long as your win7 computer works, anyway.

This isn't Steam.

Wrong. Even "disabling" it still sends "anonymized data" to Microsoft. And the spyware fact isn't even the only reason that Windows 10 is garbage, it just happens to be one of the reasons that it is morally and objectively garbage.

As people below have written - you cannot disable all of it as some of the spyware "features" are connected with actual system features. Going through all of the outgoing firewall connections is a real pain, there is much more of it than in Windows 7, and even if you have used external apps to disable some of the spyware functions of the OS, it all gets reset after every system update. Then you can have fun again! I have a newer Win10 system and I almost do not use it, even though it is much more powerful than my current 10 year old computer, because it gets on my nerves so much (also, I have little time for games ;) ). I can't imagine how awful it must be on Win11.
On a related note, the dev of the the most popular, free antispyware app for Windows is... a Microsoft partner. So that's that.

We still get drivers update despite dropped support (check nvidia and amd); There is stil updates every month if you have pro version and ESU subscription you have updates till 2023, and maybe more after, like 2024.
Anyway since sp1 there has been only like two or three important security updates. The rest is mainly internet explorer and windows defender or ms office updates or drivers (which you can upgrade manually with 1 or .inf files, if you ever have encounter a single problem on this OS :) )

In two month of win 10, forums had more problem threads than the whole history of windows all pute together...

Anyway since 2009 any game using dx11, vulkan or opengl can work on windows 7, unless you do something specific to no make it run, like using dx12 (and still using dx/vk can allow you to run some title like the last Hitman for instance).

It is different from xp which was 99% 32 bit users. Since 2009 everyone switched progressivly to 64bit, so everygame will run forever on win 7. + win 7 pro has the advantage of providing a free VM with win xp license, which allow you to basically run any 16bit program.

And even now some devs that are developping games still somehow support windows xp simply because they use dx 9.0c. The recent Lost Ark use dx 9.0c, which is very old but does a good work if you can code ;)£
high graphics is no more an important point on pc gaming, most of the best games are indie nowadays. So it's quite nice to have the best looking AAA (cp2077) on win 7. Some new game like total war warhammer 3 also use dx11 and run on 7.

On the paper win 7 can run 3 times more games and software than any other windows, may it be xp, 8.1, 10 or 11.

I'm not even supposed to be able to run win 7 on a 5600x ryzen, but it works perfect with the modified usb3 driver.

Another loyal dog for corporations. eh? I bet you love following your masters' orders every time. And stop your lies - ALL telemetry in Windows 10 CANNOT be disabled unless you pull the cable out.
