MaddionMax: Same here, i7-980 crashes. The CPU is old, but the game run really smooth...until the crashing point.
I've got the xeon equivilant of your cpu and mine also crashes same place.
Someone got a reply from CD Project Red regarding the AVX issue. You can find it in the CDP forums. Mail crash thread.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and for your report.

Regarding support for CPUs that are not supporting AVX Instruction Set, we are working on it.

Don't know what to think about this issue. I understand people want to play the game but if your CPU is SO OLD it does not support AVX you should upgrade your machine and not expect this to be patched. AVX is usually a performance push. The same happend with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Some people keep an older CPU for very good reasons, not just because they're poor.

No. Baldur's gate 3 removed AVX support via a patch. And although my cpu (i7-920) doesn't support AVX commands, I could play BG3 just fine and got no problems whatsoever that would keep me from playing the game. Also BG3 is in early access, not a full game release, and I've been playing it since day 1, again, no problems.
Here, I can't play the game for more than 5 minutes, well I could but I'd have to play "cyberpunk 2077 : the bar edition" instead.

THCElite: So basically I fired up all three backgrounds and it appears there is a fatal crash in all three.

Corpo: The second you sit in the chair is a crash to desktop.

Streetkid: Right as you exit the bar.

Nomad: Right as you finish the little cinematic in NC and begin to transition back to play. I caught a glimpse of being behind the wheel again here and then crash to desktop.

The only thing I really haven't tried so far is a complete reinstall, which Im going to attempt now.

Anyone else have input?
hi,

my game was consistenly crashing (only chose CORPO each time)

everytime i got past the 'character selection / custom.' the game would crash - terminal crash thingy.

i have an RTX2080 super

i left all game settings alone initially; then went to GOG and did the 'verifiy repair' thingy - all good (i.e. patched to 1.03 and the '29mb' update)

i had already installed latest video drivers - but made sure to reset to default settings, as i did not perform a clean install.

back into the game, select corpo again, character custom. and after that, again, crash to terminal.

then i changed 'video' settings - which on default on my machine went to RTX ULTRA

I selected only ULTRA (i.e. no RTX)

back to start new game, corpo, etc. - now, NO CRASH

strangely enough, after this, I quit the game, change the video settings back to RTX ULTRA

back to new game, select corpo etc. - and now, also NO CRASH

apologies, I can't point people to 'specifics' as to WHY / HOW etc.

But what I listed above is what got me past the initial terminal error crashes that wouldn't let me get past the character selection into game

I know some people might wonder, why didn't you try anything beyond CORPO - because to me it didn't seem that changing character class should fix my error / problem, you know, variables controls and all that nerdy stuff.

anyway, been playing since, no problems

hope any of this helps to anyone having issues

1. Check verify repair the game install
2. Install latest video driver, and set to default / perform clean install
3. Changed the initial default video settings in game from RTX ultra to just ULTRA - no RTX.

basically what i did and after that, voila, working... and to state it again, once I got past the crash point, I took the next available moment to quit the game, restart the game from GOG - change video from ULTRA back to RTX Ultra - and now this also works fine.

apologies, can't give explanations as to why, id just be talking outta my ass
Guys in nexusmod one user post a .exe whinout AVX, and its work to me.

But that basically means that others uses who have a CPU which is not over 10 years old might have less performance just so that older machines can use it?
