"Removed the memory_pool_budgets.csv file. which was not connected with the final version of the game and had no influence on it (it was a leftover file used during the development to estimate memory usage. It had no effect on how much memory was actually allocated). Perceived performance increase after editing the file may have been related to restarting the game."

So basically the file is irrelevant? I edited the memory pool in the PC column. I know it gave me a bit of a boost. Less frames per second dropped. It was mostly in crowded areas.

You can change it back to original value and see if fps drops.
Did you do a direct comparison? As in: use default .csv, go into crowded area and look at fps vs. use modified .csv, go into a same area and look at fps. Each after freshly starting up the game?

It didn't make a difference for me but I noticed that the game runs worse fps-wise the longer I play it. So as they wrote, for most people it might have been an illusion as a result of comparing performance of a long-running play session with one where the game was just restarted (due to the .csv modification).
Typical case of placebo effect :D I've fallen for it too. But then after reverting the changes and monitoring my memory and CPU usage, I realized it was bogus. Because by default it is "set" to 1.5Gb mem pool, but obviously the game uses much more... Stupid.

No. I didn't need to. Because I know the crouded areas were where the frame rate dropped the most. With changing the values it was slightly better. But the new driver from four days ago also helped. Now I get 49-60fps even in those crouded areas.

Here's an interesting video that shows the different qualities and how they perform.

After watching this video I tried it myself. I am only running 1440p (2560x1440) and I used the Medium Ray Tracing preset with some customizations. And now I get 49fps+ pretty much everywhere.

I got over 75h of playtime, played through the hole main and side missons and only got 1 crash over the time and nearly no fps drops (Series X) but since the update today i got less crowded areas and everytime i drive or sprint i got heavy drops from 60 down to 40-50 .... why ? I'am really into the game but this frustrated me heavily..
Btw glitches like a flying car are no bugs for me , they are like features which gave the game a funny touch to it

yeah tested settings on my rad7, and can confirm game doesn't take more vram or more ram when those are changed.

But it would be nice if CDPR gave us more open configuration files that are used - or at least extract tool for modding.

Why are you posting here? You cannot edit config files on console.
