Destin_Faroda: You have to pay Google a monthly fee for Stadia and you must pay for every Stadia game as well. I doubt Google will allow you to import games for free.
Just some considerations:
- Google is evil (political manipulation, data theft, military-industrial complex etc.)
- Google has killed several promising services in the past, like Wave (
https://gcemetery.co/)
- Google Stadia is not suited for action games due to high latency
- Google will own everything (the games, your saves, your achievements etc.) and you're dependant on the goodwill of a capitalist company that sees you as data cattle
- I bet if enough people use the service, they will censor your chats, analyze your behaviour, spam you with advertisement , become unreliable and so on.
- It's unlikely modding will be possible on Stadia
I am already aware that you need to pay a month fee for a few month (Google Stadia Free is coming next year BTW).
Well I may not have phrase what I spoke earlier clear. I was thinking of save game migrating between Gog version and Stadia version. But we will see if Stadia does something like gog connect or not. Only time will tell.
-I don't know about Google being evil... Biased toward making more money is probable more apt description to use here.
-Google Stadia is built on running through Chrome and Chromecast Ultra which are already in use widely. It would be weird for Google to invest in large gaming servers only to pull back and left those extra server unused this close to release. Other service may have been killed because they were too complicated and market isn't there/ready for it. Nothing new really.
-There were some gamescom demo most people have comment that Latency is surprising low considering all things. Only time will tell if this reflect actual performance out in the "wild".
-Steam and other digital launcher too (Uplay, EA Origin, and other just to name a few) sorta of already does that and no one is hating on them for it.
-Perhaps true, it won't bother me so much as I like to just "play solo" and avoid video game that are multiplayer orientated in general.
-It is too early to know for sure that we can't mod games on Stadia. I don't use mod as much other people so it is not as a big deal for me. My guess is if server can handle save-game files then perhaps they could support something like Steam workshop where people can upload mods and apply it in-game up to a reasonable point.
Stadia is interesting to me because I just happened to own Pixel 3, google phone, which is supported right out of the gate for Stadia. It would allows me to "play" pretty much anything from cute games to Cyberpunk 2077 on my phone over Wi-Fi while travelling. I am looking to work in a field where I may do lot of travel and lugging around my PC is not an endearing proposal. Switch is a great example of what I am looking for in a portable console but I strongly feel that Stadia will be best of both portable console and PC hardware.
