Okay, so ever since release I have had this weird issue. When on foot I use keyboard and mouse, but I vastly prefer to use a controller for driving vehicles. Having both connected at the same time and switching between them at any time actually works like a charm (unless keyboard rebinding, ADS toggle and a lot of other PC-centric things, but I digress), which is great.

However, when I'm not using the controller for an extended period of time, i.e. during a longer mission that doesn't require any driving, both stick axes of the controller stop working. As far as I can tell, both triggers (which are technically also an axis) as well as the buttons continue to work, though. Unplugging and reconnecting the controller doesn't help, either. Only a full restart of the game solves the issue temporarily.

So far I have tried a wired 360 controller (which is what I mostly use for this game) as well as a Dualshock 3 controller connected via bluetooth (using SCP Toolkit), and the behavior is the same for both of these.

Anyone else experience something similar? And any ideas how to solve it maybe?

I'm having the same issue. I think it has something to do with breaking down components, as that's when I notice it the most.

What's weird for me is that one trigger still works and the joysticks function on the menus, just not while driving.

Yeah, same here. It's as if something is preventing the stick axes from working. And it isn't even controller specific, when changing controllers after this has happened the issue persists regardless of which one is plugged in.

I will keep an eye out for any relation to crafting, though; while I typically only disassemble weapons and rarely do anything else crafting related (with the exception of the odd upgrade here and there) it's certainly something to look out for. Thanks!

I have this same issue, though I haven't noticed if its related to disassembling or not. The controller works fine if I go to any menus, but in the game neither the left nor right (though sometimes it is just the right) joystick work. I am using a wired xbox one controller.

I've wondered if it isn't related to alt tabbing out of the game, but again I've not researched it enough to notice a cause.

Hopefully it will get figured out and fixed. I end up having to quit the game and restart in order to get the controller to work fully again.
