Whenever you get a phone call you need to press a key to answer. thing is.... it answers the phone anyway.
That and some conversation won't end or progress until you pick a specific answer.

Am I missing anything or is this really how this game is designed? I was hoping for some actual choice in what I do and how I play.

Still only a couple of hours in as a corpo but it doesn't feel like I have a lot of choice.

I've been trying for long to figure out how the phone works, when there is a call I press the key, but t doesm't anser, it does aatomatically (maybe the first calls you receive are scripted and can't be skipped? I would like to know, I don't want to progress until I have the keys correctly binded)
Even in life you dont have much choice and everyone dies at the end :)
So far for me when you get a phone call related to a mission it automatically picks up, even though it shows the button prompt. But you can use the phone on your own to call contacts. There is even a point in the first mission after the prologue where you are asked to call the fixer for the job to update them. For this you have to open the phone yourself and select the contact, likely meaning it is optional. So the phone has a purpose outside of receiving calls during missions, but those mission related incoming calls are not optional it seems.

After sinking a few hours in it seems you can't refuse any incoming calls. you can of course not call NPCs when you are required to and not reply to text messages.

Though from what I've seen so far, nothing I do in this game has any impact on it. the story and missions will progress to the finish line regardless.
there's very little variance or choice in CB2077.

I read they re-branded the game as an "action-adventure" so... I guess I can't complain it's not an RPG and I only get, at most, 2 dialogue options

I don't even know why the phone rings since the game forces you to talk to the people whether you want to or not. It should just be a popup because answering your phone is a fake choice.

the rebuttal to my argument on this has been to lower my expectations.

its a clown world; my life, a comedy
