jkristmann: Hello there!
First of all - we've talked to GOG about the problem of not being able to create new threads. This should be fixed now, so feel free to create your own threads from now on. [EDIT] Doesn't seem to be fixed yet, sorry :-( Should be working soon.
@Senestoj
I agree with your points. We're currently working a lot on UI improvements - since our development has been very iterative we didn't spend too much time on the UI as this would have meant to redo it a lot, which seemed like a waste of time. Now that most of our features are settled down we are looking to add that little bit of extra polish and usability for it.
Also, Achievements are a thing we'd love to do. You are right, it fits perfectly into our game - you can expect to see Achievements in the game in the near future.
@styggron
Thanks a lot for your kind words! I'd be really curious on your saving technique / script. If you find the time to share more insights I'd really appreciate it! (Don't worry we're not intending to prevent this, just being curious)
As for difficulty, we know that we have quite a rampup around expedition 3 - 4. We're constantly looking into tuning the game and while we want the standard version of the game to be quite hard we see that there is potential to ease certain areas a little bit. Also, we're currently looking into offering an easy mode with limited content, similar to how FTL did it.
Again, thanks a lot to you all for participating in the discussion and development of the game! We're very approachable developers and really appreciate any kind of feedback.
Cheers,
Johannes
Hello Johannes,
I just wish to again congratulate you on a fantastic game, it is highly addictive. Normally I keep away from Roguelike and turn based but your story and how the game runs is just perfect, I adore it.
Ok re the saving, I didn't want to mention too much originally but because you said you will not stop it, I guess I am safe then :)
It is a simple matter of just copying the save files from their default windows positions before they get wiped by the game. The local storage folder inside users\appdata contains the currently saved game.
1. You play the game and ensure you save at least once.
2. Copy the "Local Storage" folder which is in the AppData directory in Curious Expedition
3. When you die in the game, quit the game, copy the backed up Local Storage to the current Local Storage.
4. Reload the game and select where you left off.
5. You have your hard work saved from where you were and can play from that point.
With this method I can have several parallel games running at once which is my preferred way to play. I really want to have save slots and no permadeath, but that is just me. I know the game is not designed to run this way and I do understand. :)
I have not yet put this in a script yet but a simple Batch file can run in the background to facilitate this. At present I just have windows file explorer open at the same time as I play.
You will be pleased to know that even with this method, sometimes the player will still die, although the golden pyramid etc will be in the same location, other things happen that change it. This is the genius of your game I would say :)
Thank you again for making such a fantastic game.
