On my last play, I had some Damning Evidence against me. As I wasn't able to get rid of it (or the adversaries) on time, I just resigned, sent my most valued disciples to some activities just to lock them away from justice, and waited for the bureau to grab one of the idle disciples.
To my surprise, they didn't take any of them but instead they sent ME to court.
Is there a possibility that the bureau chooses you, no matter if there are any disciples around? Or was it some bug?

That ending did hurt... a lot.

IIRC it's random, it just picks someone from the pool of eligible cultists (which include you). By sending the other disciples on activities, however, you made that pool a lot smaller, which probably contributed to you being picked.

This was discussed beforehanded - given that a cult in full swing can have more than 20 members, evidence wouldn't be much of a threat if they had to jail all available cultists before getting to the leader (you). So it's random instead.

remember that you can get a favor from authority by dreaming. this will greatly reduce the chance of a negative trial outcome.

if you're willing to exploit the mechanics there another option. 'save & exit' just before the end of the trial to create a quicksave. back it up and restore it if the trial goes wrong.

I might be wrong but I think you get to jail if the investigator found a human corpse when working with damning evidence. Did you have a corpse laying around?

Nope, but I had some notoriety he added to the damning evidence. Maybe that's the point: if there is enough reputation to add to the evidence, he can go directly after you. That's just a conjecture, though.
