A very little while ago, I started the following thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/crysis_series/game_will_not_run_on_xp_sp3_phenom_ii_quad_gtx960, the main part of which I will paste below.

At any rate, here's the sitrep: on my computer, with a Phenom II Quad-core, a GTS 960, running XP SP3, I could not get the game to launch, except a very few times, using the "Crysis.exe" file in the Bin32 folder, when I reached the in-game menu where I could not actually select anything or even exit the game: I needed tp do a hard reset.

Here's the solution: I needed to deny permission for the game to use the internet. Apparently, the game attempts to connect to something or other, for some purpose or other, it doesn't matter what. I am assuming that the game will halt until either it successfully connects to the remote computer, or it fails to connect to it, and possibly the firewall keeps its attempts in some sort of intermediate, non-successful-but-non-failed state, and the game won't continue until it reaches some condition that the unattended firewall prevents it from achieving.

If you have trouble starting the game, you might try adding the game exe that you are going to use in your software firewall's "allowed" or "denied" list (probably doesn't matter which list you put it in) or you can see what happens if you disable your software firewall.

This worked for me. Wwell, I haven't actually played the game but I have rebound all the keys, selected all the options which I wanted to select, and created a new profile. So that's real progress right there!

( I still need to launch the game using \Bin32\Crysis.exe. )

Hopefully, if you are having problems launching the game, this will help you too!

(My original post)

Here's the main part: "There are several ways to launch Crysis: a few shortcuts in the Start Menu group, a few files in the root of the installation folder, and some exes in the Bin32 and Bin64 folders. (I tried both shortcuts in the Start Menu group, the "regular" shortcut and the DX9 shortcut. No joy.)

The ONLY way I can get the game to launch is via the "Crysis.exe" in the Bin32 folder. Every other launch method causes a Windows DOS window to (very briefly) flash on my screen and then exit.

Using Bin32/Crysis.exe I can reach an in-game menu, with is basically green and black, with a list of categories on the left, such as "Single Player", "Multiplayer", "Options", etc. The rest of the screen has a very plain background graphic but nothing else. And I can not actually click on any of those options to actually display any options to choose.

In fact, when I have that options-category screen up, I can not alt-tab, or ctrl-alt-del out of the game either. Nor does the Windows hotkeys on my keyboard work. In order to regain control of my computer, I need to do a hard reset."
