I once said that if EA ever released Crysis on GOG I would forgive them for every shitty thing they've done. The reason I love this game so much is because it feels a lot like a modern version of Perfect Dark. Both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are some of my favorite games ever made. Once you're dual wielding two silenced pistols with laser sights and cloaking it's clear where the game got it's inspiration form. I wish there were more games like this. I guess Metro 2033 has similar gamepley albeit a lot more liner. But still very tactical with weapons you can mod.
I can understand why you said that. I'm surprised as well that EA is releasing games to GOG.
I never expected this from them.
I love it too, pity I can't run it smoothly on my machine, will wait to play when I upgrade my computer me thinks.

No matter the specs, Crysis 1 won't run smoothly on almost any modern pc. The game is excellent, but it is one of the worst optimized games ever. It is heavily CPU bound, and it uses mainly a single core for calculations. The specs that you have now could actually run the game better than your new possible new pc.

Thanks for the reply. My specs are:
Intel i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
16gb ram
GeForce GT 650M
Win 7 x64
I had to create a custom resolution of something like 896x584 in 16:9 in order to run it at 30fps on average or even lower. I think my GPU might be slowly dying or it's something else, I have done some tweaks from tweakguides and got a bit of a FPS improvement but still not enough. Might need to defragment my disc, haven't done that in a while and it might make a difference.
I don't have a high-end pc, most hardware is 4 years old with the exception of the GPU which is from last year.
I get a average of 30fps on very high settings.

You and everyone else! ;) It looks like they finally saw all these willing-to-pay-for-DRMfree-EA-games-on-GOG wallets. Whatever their reason, I'm glad they're back again and I hope they won't stop releasing gems.

Ah, I didn't know that you had a notebook. While your notebook is quite good, notebooks are not generally good for resource intensive gaming. They're very handy for running older games on the run like most of the GOG.com catalogue, but mobile parts have a lots of compatibility and performance problems with AAA-releases (like Crysis 1).

Your best bet for running Crysis 1 would probably be a desktop PC that features a good dual-core CPU combined with a powerful GPU, but that would be a waste if you want to run any modern games, as dual-core would bottleneck them hard (though many games that are released even nowadays run better on dual-cores).

Crysis is far from optimized but you most certainly can get it to run well on PC's today.

That's not too bad. I'm sure if you set it to high or medium you'll get more. Be sure not to use anit aliasing. That will tank your hardware.

I used anti-aliasing x2, so that might gave it a bit of impact.

I have to say though that these numbers are the combined average of several Crysis benchmarks.
I used Hardware OC Crysis Benchmark Reloaded for these benchmarks.

In-game I get much better fps, the benchmarks are pushing the engine to it's limits, which is what creates the low fps.

I should had put the text more precisely. The game can be run generally well on modern specs (50-60 fps on high/very high), but it won't run smoothly (no noticeable fps dips at times). The CPU limitations for example really kick in inside the village on the level Recovery, even reaching as low as 20s for a couple of seconds when there is a lot of stuff going on. Most people would just expect that a computer from 2016 would run a game from 2007 on max settings with a constant 60 fps.

Hmmm try disabling hyperthreading.
Yes that's correct Harrastaja8.
When I do a CPU benchmark with Crysis I get 2 frames per second when that most intense calculations are done (real time)..

One thing I remembered. The default cpu and gpu benchmarks can be run without any tool. If you go to the install directory and look inside the bin32 and bin64 folders you'll see three bat files in each of them. They have names like "Benchmark_CPU", if you run those you can benchmark your Crysis install. :)
