I seem to have encountered a fairly well known bug: when I destroy the two kpa tanks in level 2, i don´t get any new mission goals (while I do get the confirmation that the destruction of the tanks is completed). I cannot proceed by any means.
I tried to do a couple of things that were recommended in other forums (that´s how I know that this is an old bug):
1. I destroyed the tanks in a different order.
2. I reloaded from the checkpoint where I found the first hostage a couple of times.
3. I tried to proceed without the mission update, but I do not get any updates when I come to the waterfall.
4. I finally reloaded the whole level a taking a different aproach to the village (I first took out the radar station or whatever it is, where you can complete a secondary objective).

Nothing helps, so the game is essentially broken for me. Does anybody knows a useful work around or did they came up with a solution for this bug at any time?

Now that is a joy killer :-( I must have been lucky as I went through it smoothly both times I played the first Crysis games. Wish I could help. Here is a biscuit and a cuppa to cheer you up!

Just maybe you need to walk in a certain location for it to trigger? I am no programmer so no more ideas.

I had the same issue with no mission update. Suit-jump on the plateau from where the waterfall is running down and then proceed. After you continued, you will get the progress message after some time.
Indeed, it is a joy-killer. @The-Business: I will go and try this - any idea how long I should continue down the road, because I did try this and killed about 10 soldiers without any mission update - the only difference being that I did not power jump on the plateau but took the path a little bit more to the right, just along the river.
Anyway thanks for the suggestion.
It's weird. In 10 years of playing Crysis this year is the first time I had this bug (not atm though). Restarting a earlier save is what worked for me.
It's not at the first encounter (iirc you kill 6-8 soldiers there). Maybe later where the valley widens and you cross the creek and encounter more enemies?
