OK, first of all, I'm not talking about the GOG version, but the DRMfree version from Groupees' Bundle of Damned. But I hope someone here can help me to sort this out.

At what I think must be the end of the game, --spoilers ahead-- I get to see the flashback of the officers carrying the Captain to the helicopter and leaving the ship. Then a flash emerges from below, the helicopter disappears and the three men are shown floating with the heads joined, and some corpses fly through them morphing into monsters. And after, I don't know, five minutes of floating corpses, with no keys responding (only ESC to access the menu), the game crashes to desktop with the usual termination message, no additional info given.

Is the game over or what? Should I see some final credits in that scene? Thanks in advance for any help.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the crash, but I can tell that that's not the end of the game.
Well, I've been trying different settings, un-reinstalling, disabled graphic options, reloading in the previous chapter... nothing.

If somebody could share a save file for the moment after my crash occurs, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
A savegame! Why haven't I thought of that earlier? :)

Here you go:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fxi26lgko35v1n7

It contains an autosave, a normal save, and a quicksave, right after that scene you mentioned. They go into the \Cryostasis\Data\Save\ directory. (The name of the savegame might be weird, because I have russian language set in the game.)

Btw, in case you don't hear the narration during this scene, this is what the narrator says:

"And the forest went on singing its mournful song, and the thunder crashed, and the rain poured down.
- What else can I do to save these people?! - cried out Danko above the thunder.
And suddenly he ripped open his breast and tore out his heart and held it high above his head. It shone like the sun, even brighter than the sun, and the raging forest was subdued and lighted up by this torch, the torch of a great love for the people, and the darkness retreated before it and plunged, quivering, into a yawning bog in the depths of the forest. And in their astonishment the people were as if turned to stone.
The brave Danko cast his eye over the endless steppe, cast a joyful eye over this land of freedom, and gave a proud laugh. And then he fell down and died.
And his followers were so full of joy and hope that they did not notice he had died and that his brave heart was still flaming beside his dead body. But one timid creature noticed it and fearing he knew not what, stamped on the flaming heart.
And it sent up a shower of sparks and went out."
