Hi,

So I was having issues even getting the game to boot properly on Win10, it would either completely minimize over and over again while the game started and when I could see the menu it was all glitchy.

I tried DGvoodoo and compatibility settings, whcih either made it worse or I would get directinput error message.

So here is how I got the game to work fine for me,

In the installation folder, right click the "crusaders.exe" > Properties > Tick "reduced color mode" set it to 16-bit color > tick Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution > tick disable fullscreen optimizations

DO NOT use compatibility settings or run as Admin.
Running the game as administrator or in compatibility mode would either crash the game with a direct input error message or it would self minimize over and over again.

Game boots up fine for me now. No minimizing. I was able to set the resolution to 1080p in the in-game menu. It's running really good, so far. Only visual glitch i see is that some times, very occasionally, some enemies are like "invisible", you can see them but you see like an outline of them. I've only seen it happen twice, i don't know if that's a game bug or a result of the options ticked.

Hope this works out for someone like it did me.

Thank you so much for this. I bought it when it first released and gave up trying to get it to run. This helped me finally itch my nostalgia bone.
thank you for your tips, these are working just fine

I know this is quite the necro post but I both wanted to say thank you for the tips to get it to run properly and also note that, as someone who played this on both a Win98 and an XP desktop back in the day, some of those enemies always showed up as invisible.

I haven't touched the game in well over a decade but I do remember the occasional "invisible" enemy and other things, such as bugging out the Golems in the mines. I reassure everyone here by saying that things like that means the game is running as well as it would have if you were using OG hardware

Thanks a bunch, it worked for me!
At first, the game launched and played just fine. But after the first time I quit the game, I couldn't get it to run again for some weird reason. Reinstalling, restarting the computer, repairing the files - nothing helped. This, however, did!
OK, my jubilations were premature.
I got it to run, made it 15 minutes in, saved the game, quit, made the post... and now it stopped working again. I have a creeping suspicion this has something to do with the game or GoG logging some sort of info, like chosen resolution, somewhere on the computer, and not cleaning that bit up during reinstallation (or not reliably cleaning it up) even if "remove all local files" option is ticked.
Unfortunately, I've no idea where to search for that sort of thing. Any ideas, anyone?
It works only by playing trought gog galaxy
Sadly I cannot run it in usable form on Windows 11.
PC configuration: Windows 11 22H2, Intel Core i5 12600 with Intel UHD 770*, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

*Intel driver version 31.0.101.4824 (8 September 2023)

I tried with dgVoodoo, copied all the dll files from MS/x86 folder into the games folder etc. but sadly the game doesn't recognize it.

The default graphics looks like this and is totally unplayable:

You could perhaps try this:

This is what worked for me (Windows 10 x64 Updated)

Go to the game folder
Right click "crusaders.exe" set compabilty options to:
- Windows 7 or Windows 8
- Execute as Adm

Put the following dgvoodoo2 files in the game folder (From the X86 folder)
- DDraw.dll
- D3DImm.dll

Execute "CMMConfig.exe"
Change 'Display Device' to "dgVoodoo DirectX Wrapper (display)"
Click OK

Try play the game!

P.S.
Sometimes the game still crashes :/

Thank you a lot! It works like wonder hehehe
No compatibility settings needed at all for me, I just have to close RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) before playing it and it runs fine every time on the latest build of Windows 10.
