It's a combination of factors. There's a low ceiling, he didn't know standing jumps go higher, he tried to jump to a further post than a closer post and, as I just tested, jumping is very fiddly with placement, range and obstacles encountered.
Also, the voice-over is triggered by location, and always plays.
I don't think it was that fiddly originally, but that might be nostalgia.
