I can survive for a while, but I run out of ammunition. Where can I find some? I tried the dead bodies of guards.

Are you playing no remorse or no regret?

In no remorse (loose cannon difficulty), most ammo you get from fallen enemies but ammo drops from them seem random cos in one mission the guards barely dropped any ammo and the next mission i was able to max out my ammo quite easily. If you really are strapped for ammo, you can always buy some from weasel but I never had any ammo problems, even when the guards didn't seem to be dropping anything.

In no regret so far, ammo hasen't been a problem so far, the guards always have something. I'm guessing you're either just unlucky with drops or maybe a little too trigger happy ;)

EDIT: You are checking the crates and not blowing them up right? most of your ammo you don't loot from your enemies will be in the crates

I'm playing No Remorse, wondering whether to choose the highest or second-highest difficulty level.

I'm at the very beginning. I kill a few guards, but not one seems to have any ammo on him. But you say that's where most ammo comes from, so what should I do, other than walk over the dead guys?

There are containers but nothing I'd describe as a crate. Where are the first containers?

And do I have to find weasel or can I call him up?

Many thanks for your contribution. I haven't solved the problem yet, but if you could manage another post or two, I'm sure I'll do it.

In No Remorse, the first containers are right by where you teleport in. One is by a computer terminal, the other beside the healing station. After you clear out the guards in the area, you'll get to a corridor, there's another container just under the camera and keep going after that you'll see a tracked robot with a container behind him. Press "s" near the container then "enter" to open it. From the first 4 containers you should have a nice stash of Ba-40 ammo clips to work with even if the first 4 or so guards don't drop any ammo clips (though in a quick run through of the first part, 2 of them did have ammo clips). There's several containers after those points too to so keep an eye out for them. You can also get the shotgun and grenade launcher in the first mission too so don't miss them ;)

If you're at the very beginning of the game then you probably haven't seen Weasel yet. He's the weapons vendor in the rebel base and some guns in the game you will only be able to get through him. To talk to him (or anyone else in the base) just press "s" near him and then "enter", just like the containers :). You won't get to the rebel base until you finish the first mission so don't need to look for him during missions ;)

Just throwing this out there just in case, when you get near a fallen enemy, press "s" to select the corpse and "enter" to loot it. You will always get credits and usually an ammo clip or energy cells and the occasional medkit. The items they are carrying don't automatically drop on the ground. However, if you are carrying the maximum amount of a certain item when you loot a corpse also carrying the item, then it will drop on the ground for pick up later. You might already know this but I'm just looking to make sure I've covered all bases just in case it might be the problem.

BTW: Sorry about calling the containers, crates. I don't know if it's me mixing up British and American English again or if it's for not living in an English speaking country for so long ;)

Hope this helps

Woo hoo! Following your instructions, I found some ammo. I've now got further than ever before.

I didn't previously know about healing stations, which don't seem to be in the manual, so thanks. Now, I've killed everything and found a healing station, but I don't see how to go further.

Don't worry about crates. I thought they had to be wooden, but the dictionary I consulted had a first meaning of “a slatted wooden box” and a second of “any completely enclosed boxlike packing or shipping case.”

Glad to have been of help ;)

You said had trouble going further. Remember there's a lot of things in the game you can interact with. I mentioned the containers and fallen enemies before but there are other things you can interact with. Computer stations, alarm switches, number pads, consumables on shelves/desks, key card switches and many more can all be interacted with by standing near them and pressing "s" and then "enter". If you're having trouble going further, it's probably because there's something you haven't interacted with. The first switch (not including two alarm switches) you activate is in the corridor with the third containers and 2 cameras. At the end there is a door with a lever beside it. Just stand near the lever and press "s" "enter" to open the door. Not sure if this is the problem as you didn't mention where you were stuck.

As a general rule, if you are having trouble progressing through the game, it's probably because there's an important computer terminal or switch you haven't interacted with. Remember to look closely at desks as theres sometimes items you can pick up from them, the most important being key cards.

The "S" and "enter" keys are your friends, you'll be using them a lot in this game :)

You were, of course, right again. There was a keypad earlier on that gave me access to the next section.

Directing the Little Man is rather strange, but you may just have given me eons of entertainment. I can't thank you enough.

If you have the time, I have a bonus question: I'd like to know about how to use the various objects I pick up, e.g. one is a mine, but I don't know how to set it off, unless it's by proximity.

You're welcome ;)

The controls are a little strange and they do take getting used to. Some people prefer the number pad on the keyboard to control the silencer (the player character), others use a gamepad but I did fine with the arrow keys.

All consumable items you pick up (barring ammo) are used by pressing the "U" key and the "I" and "O" cycle through your held items. Most items can be used just by pressing "U" (medkits, energy cubes, land mines, the inhibitor, blastpaks (only at the mission objective) and the datalink), credits you can only use at the rebel base with Weasel, detpaks you press "U" to drop them and "B" to detonate. Sometimes, detpaks can be found on desks/shelves etc so even if you didn't drop it, you can still set them off by pressing "B". Lastly, the spider mines you press "U" to drop the mine and then they will travel in whatever direction the silencer is facing so just turn left or right to control the mines direction. And that covers all the inventory items ;)

Have fun, and don't forget the shotgun that's waiting for you on the other side of the telepad after the big pool of goop ;)
Don't forget too check computers...they are very vital. They will unlock door, drop force fields, and give you combinations to locks. Don't worry if you shoot up the computers, they should still work :)
