I bought this game not knowing exactly what I was getting into. Ughh... these controls. Was expecting a fallout-style combat system or something. My fault for not investigating. Any tips?

Honestly, the only way to get better at the controls is to play the game a lot... or so I've heard. I'm not afraid of a difficulty/learning curve, but when a game mechanic is directly responsible for my not enjoying the game, I have a hard to overcoming it. I haven't finished the game yet, and I doubt I ever will.

Sorry if that doesn't help, but the only tip I can personally offer is keep playing the game. Hopefully the extra practice will help you get the hang of the controls.
Have a printout of the keyboard commands near and experiment with the Num-Lock on/off controls to see what suits you best.
I've found the best way is the Num-Lock option where you swivel left/right with with 4 and 6, crouch on 5, fire with 0, etc. I like it because it has almost everything I need - sidestep, roll, and crouch - all within a fingerstroke.

It does take some practice and getting used to it, but the game is very enjoyable once you get it down.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a shot.
I'm running a dual Monitor System. While playing the game on my "main" monitor, i have the GOG Reference Card(can be downloaded where manual is) open on the other. In the end its not that hard. I find it the most difficult part to actually guess over greater distance, where you gonna shot :D

Have fun with these games!
