RainbowDragon: ... you might find out in the forums here, that there are still a lot of people who do not want to have ANY kind of launcher or client installed on their PCs. We just want to have pure installation files and gog is always (very) late providing these files compared to galaxy updates.
Well, I don't use, nor need, the galaxy launcher to play the games.
It's there only for update purposes, and quick access to forums etc.
In comparison, for offline play, steam requires you to go offline first, but it has to run in the background.
Galaxy does not. It does not launch a dll that requires your online connection, nor keep tabs on your habits.
No part of it need to run at all.
That aside, the main issue here are the publishers that treat players as paying beta testers, so game devs can fix their shoddy work post-launch. And it seems people are okay with that. Consequently you require a lot of small updates.
Every new game is like that, and with the unity engine, crappy school project asset flips seems to pop up at an alarming rate.
Point is, there are a lot of new games that need constant updating. The developers need to make separate installers for every game platform, so it's only natural they, the developers, use the easiest one with the most beta testers, I mean, early access players, available.
So there's no point in keeping installation files of a game that doesn't even work properly on your PC, and for most new games, updates are always around the corner. In which case it's more than reasonable to keep the offline installer on hold.
Because v2.0.1 is not very great. In fact it's freakin' annoying. There are WAY too many issues to call that abomination a finished game.
Frankly, I don't feel GOG is at fault here at all.
