I updated the game to the latest version (4.0.0) and it wouldn't start.

I left GOG Galaxy and tried to launch directly from the install directory and it complained that lua53.dll was missing.

I found a copy of lua53.dll and copied it over to the game directory and now it launches fine.

Oh ... and I did try a verify/repair before manually getting a lua53.dll with no luck.

The file is missing from the offline installer too.
That's what they call schlamperei.

This is my problem too. Where did you attain the dll? there's several sites online that claim to offer the exact file but I'm leery of those.

I grabbed them from the LuaBinaries on SourceForge.net ... https://sourceforge.net/projects/luabinaries/files/5.3.6/Windows%20Libraries/Dynamic/ ... I figured that was the safest place to get them ... I downloaded the lua-5.3.6_Win64_dllw6_lib unzipped it and just copied the lua53.dll to the Crossroads Inn install directory.

This is now fixed in patch 4.0.1 ... so no need to go looking for the lua53.dll elsewhere (and it did overwrite what I downloaded elsewhere, so no worries there either).
