I've been playing Creatures Exodus for a while, and I'm confused. I had some fun exploring the spaceship, I built a defense cannon and an awesome disco, and.. uhm.. my creatures are taking care of themselves. I don't need to do anything, and, worse, I can't really do that much. Sure, I can slap them when they slap someone else, but that's about it.
I understand that in this game you need to set your own goals/create your own entertainment, but it feels as if there isn't much to do at all, except watch the -admittedly cute- creatures.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to have more influence on what your creatures do/learn? Are they smart enough to solve awesome puzzles built with logic gates and stuff? Should I perhaps download a bunch of third party agents/mods/metarooms that really add possibilities?
...
Or is it really just a Norn Terrarium?
To extend my question about how smart the norns are:
are they aware of the output of gadgets? (for example, the number on a counter, the color of a light)
Are they sensitive to context?
Are they aware of time intervals? (for example, can they learn that they need to push one button roughly three seconds after the other?
The agents lying around all suggest these kinds of things, but I got the impression that they're more for you to play with than for the norns.

It's not too apparent the first few generations, but after a while extreme mutations can crop up in the gene pool. This cane change the norns'/ettins'/grendels' behaviuor and physiology for the better or the worse. I suggest you get the gene kit to get the most out of your game.
Yeah, I'm not actually sure how intelligent the first gen norns are. I think the only time measurement they understand is the length between the last time they ate. But the real draw is not trying to make them smarter, it's to breed them and to observe the outcomes.
The agents and metarooms are for more advanced play and such. They actually usually do have an impact on the creatures' function, but it's not always apparent on the surface.
