Hey there, first-time poster, long-time player of Creatures...I re-downloaded this thing earlier in the year and have great fun playing it, but I have a concern.

My Creatures 1 Norns can't seem to reach adulthood at the right time, if at all. :/ I've hatched three that stayed children well up over three hours with no sign of getting there. I dunno if it's one of the COBs I use that kinda bugs it up, or what.

If anyone's had this problem and knows what it is, maybe give me an idea? I thought it was a mutation, but then when -all- of my Norns have it...

Thanks for the consideration!

Great to hear you've returned to Creatures! The problem you're describing is one I haven't heard of, though. Do you have a list of the COBs you currently are using? I thought of a genetic mutation being the culprit, too... Until I read that it affects all of your Norns!

Approximately how long does it take them to age from babies to children? Normally, this should take around twenty minutes: I'm curious if they're reaching this life stage normally, or if their aging process has a problem in general.

Hopefully others will have some ideas, too, so your Norns can grow up properly soon!
Wow, a reply from DiscoverAlbia; I follow your blog. =)

*cough* Anyway. x3 They take about the time it normally takes to age to children, right at about 22 minutes.

The COBs I use (other than the usual ones that come from the Life Kit) are the Friendly Grendels, the carrot variations (Darkling Cave, Hunny, Muddy Swamp), And the Garden Strawberries and Garden Mushrooms. I also had a Blue Fruit Tree for a while, but though I liked that a taste of the fruit would shoot my norns' health up to 92, they stayed -babies- for more than 40 minutes onward. :/ (And the tree did seem to be the cause of that, because two norns had eaten from the tree while two hadn't; those first two stayed babies).

I'm gonna have to see just how long they stay children, monitor them for more than 3 hours perhaps, just in case they -do- change to adults at one point...I'm probably the only one with the problem, but it's just the weirdest thing. xP
Thanks so much for reading my blog! I always enjoy knowing that it's not just me blabbering on to myself. Ha ha!

Are you using Tarlia's updated C1 genomes by any chance? These basically have the correct die of old age gene included, and also have one chemical reaction removed. This converts antioxidant into aging: Aging deteriorates naturally, and at certain levels, sets off the different life stages.

For the life of me, I can't remember which COB it is, but I believe the darkling cave carrots actually contain some antioxidant. So if your Norns are eating lots of them, they'll be continuously increasing the amount of aging chemical in their system: They'll stay stuck in a life stage forever this way! It might not be the darkling cave carrots, but I'm positive that it's one of the carrot variants that has the problem.

Tarlia's C1 genomes are available at Creaturetopia: If you don't have an account, though, registrations have been closed for some time. Feel free to send me a PM here with your e-mail address, or e-mail me directly at the address listed on my blog. I'll be happy to help you get a hold of these new genomes! They won't solve the problem with your current Norns, but if you figure out which variant has antioxidant in it and remove it from the world, they should start to age properly.

Hopefully this helps! I'm pretty sure that would be problem, but there could be something else I'm completely missing. Good luck!
Sounds as good an answer as any; I'm not one for diving too much into the different chemical reactions, so sometimes some of them are mysteries like that. ^^; It's always amazing how much thought and complexity went into this cute little game...

Anyway, no, I don't have the genome, but it sounds very useful; a PM will be sent with my email. Thanks very much! ^.^
