has anyone else experienced random lockups while playing creatures 2 on windows 7 x64 as i seem to be getting this a lot but only while I'm playing

if so does anyone have a fix for this issue?

Hmm, this one I've not heard about too often. Check the usual--running as administrator, any compatibility modes?
