So I decided to build a stone wall around my town. However, even after all construction is concluded, my stone level continues to speedily rush towards zero, and it takes an unholy amount of workers to keep the level flickering rather than a constant zero. I have no other construction going on, and I'm not trading or using my stone, at least knowingly. This has occurred to me both as the Piedmont in 'Art of War' and the Swedes in 'Back to War.' The only reason I can think of is that the walls require some sort of maintenance or tax of stone; is this the case?

Periplaneta: Yes, that's the case.
Similarly, towers, many units, and ships take gold as upkeep and will refuse to fire/mutiny on you if you run out of gold.
