Hello there!
I'd be interested in buying this game, however from the screenshots it seems to me that the game is 90% about gaining military units and fighting the enemy. Upon reading the description, it looks like there should be a fairly large part where you just build and manage the economy, but I'm still unsure about that.

In games like this, I mainly love the option to build many different buildings along the way, the 'fighting' part is not really important to me.

Compared to AoE2 for example, would you say that Cossacks (Anthology) is more military/fighting based with less options to evolve your settlements, or perhaps that's not the case?

Thank you for your answers!

I would say it is more oriented towards fighting than AoE2, and especially towards large battles rather than the small-scale hit and run fights in AoE2. It still has a fairly indepth economy, but it is not the main focus.

Also lots of people seem to like playing with 10-20 minutes of "peace time" to build up in multiplayer if that's what you mean.

Hello renthicya!

As drMorholt has mentioned, Cossacks is more about battles and military action. Mostly the scale of battles differs in AoE-games. Cossacks takes emphasis on maneuvering your battalions and using the terrain properly. It has many options to develop your forces and your economy as well. The latter is very important if you would like to reach the military units of XVIII century. Selling and buying materials determines and changes the prices along a game, but don't expect deep economical decisions or ordinances. By the way, economy has important role, so you need to build a stable system to keep up your armies, ie. the troops consume food and the firing units can deplete your supplies of coal and iron. Strong economy leads to fast technological advancement which is to serve your military goals. I think in Cossacks doing battles is not your choice, there is no way to avoid wars.

Thank you guys for the answers! I think I'll buy the game regardless at its next discount time, heard many good thing about it and it provides so many hours of gameplay..
If you're after many hours of game play, then you're right with cossacks and it's add-ons. It takes ages to beat them all, actually to long for my taste.

Hello there!

Based on your description and comparison to Age of Empires 2 (AoE2), it seems you're looking for a game style that emphasizes building and managing settlements rather than focusing heavily on military and combat aspects. You can read more about how you can create cool game style here https://retrostylegames.com/blog/game-style/

While Cossacks (Anthology) does involve military units and fighting, it also offers a significant emphasis on economic development and settlement management. In Cossacks, you have the opportunity to build and evolve your settlements with various buildings, similar to what you enjoy in games like AoE2. This means you'll have the chance to focus on constructing and expanding your settlements, managing resources, and developing your economy.

While combat plays a role in Cossacks, it's not the sole focus of the game. You'll have the opportunity to engage in strategic battles, but you'll also have the freedom to prioritize the development of your settlements and economy. This provides a balance between military and non-military aspects, allowing you to enjoy the game style you mentioned.

In summary, Cossacks (Anthology) offers a game style that combines military elements with the option to build and manage settlements. It strikes a balance similar to AoE2, giving you the opportunity to focus on evolving your settlements and enjoying the building aspect of the game.

I hope this helps clarify the game's style for you. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
