Hi, does anyone know if the GOG version contains the campaign expansion the Steam has?

Thanks.
Hi,

No, it doesn't contain the Campaign expansion, but it contians European Wars and The Art of War with its campaigns.

The Campaign expansion adds the campaigns from European Wars and The Art of War to Back to War

If you really want to add the Campaign expansion to the GOG version of Back to War, you can download it for free from here: http://cossacksworld.ucoz.co.uk/load/ew_taow_campaigns_for_btw_english/9-1-0-117

How do you download this? and is it the same as the Conquest Expansion? Will the campaigns work smoothly with the new changes in BTW?

You have to register there to see the link, but here is the link: this link won't work anymore

I don't know Conquest Expansion, this pack only contains the campaigns from EW and TAoW.

I think yes, they will.

Thanks buddy!
That link is dead, could someone share the file again? I can't see keeping all three games installed if one engine can run them all together.
Here is the working link: http://www.mediafire.com/?839fw8i45aajoa4

Thanks to Ienzo for finding a copy of it.

Thanks for the info. I hope GOG can include it in the future.
How do I make this work anyway? I downloaded the file, installed the campaigns in my Back to War/Missions folder (where the 'Tutorial' folder was), but they still don't appear when I launch the game.

You point the installer to the root BTW folder, not the Missions folder I believe. However, you get all of the games in the gog version and I would recommend you play the campaigns in their respective games (EW in EW, AOW in AOW). Minor bug is present in the expansion (there are no packhorses). While I know how to fix this (Need to add the old packhorse MD file), I probably won't be doing it soon. Maybe after I release my new campaign.

(source: I made this expansion many years ago (as stalker1979, my very old username) and have extensive knowledge about the game's code and modding)

PS: I was pretty suprised when the steam took my idea and made people pay for it... >:-( I wonder if they fixed the packhorse bug though.

Unbelievable. Thanks for the help anyway, I'll play the campaigns using their respective games.

I can check it for you if you tell me which mission I should try.

By the way, the wikipedia page of Cossacks European Wars needs a correction.
According to Wikipedia Campaign Expansion was released by GSC Game World on 31st October 2002.
Actually it was released on Steam on 21 January 2011. ( http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=4856 )

That would be nice. The bug appears in the french campaign (Serving the cardinal), mission 2 (Secret Mission). In my expansion there is no packhorse when there should be one by the market. That is because the packhorse file was changed between EW and BTW and I forgot to fix that.

If the bug is present in the Steam version also, then it is very likely that they simply used my files (I really hope that is not the case).

Please check and tell us, thanks!

PS: It's a pretty dodgy one, since you can complete the actual mission fine even without the packhorse.

PPS: I intend to fix that and re-release the expansion again soon for everyone to enjoy it as bug-free as possible, as soon as I release my new campaign for BTW

It seems that they simply used your files, because the bug is present.
There is no packhorse at the market.

That would be great. :)

Edit
I checked the files with Total Commander and the differences are that all the .ilk files from the subfolders of the Ukraine folder and the file called 'patch02.gs1' are missing from the Steam DLC.

There is a text file in the Mission folder of the Steam DLC called 'mis_vic.txt'. This file doesn't exist in your expansion.
It seems it contains some strings. (for example RESW*Wood)

I found a bug in the first French mission. In the end you have two choices you liberate the priest as soon as you can or capture the Town hall and the Store house in the North-West and you make a big army defeat and all the blue coloured enemies.
I chose the second one and I noticed if I capture the six cannons that you can see on the screenshot, the game selects them in every fifth second.

Thanks for your time!

I know that the .ilk files are generated by the C++ compiler and contain debug info, however they are not necessary for the game itself. GSC guys must have accidentally left them in the folders and that's how they got into my addon. It makes sense that someone at Steam probably knows C++ well and has realized that they are not needed and that's fine.

Now, the packhorse bug is present there as well. This means that they either used my files as a base, or made the thing from scratch and were as sloppy as I was back then (I was still in high school when I made the addon).

None of the above really matters much, what bothers me is that people are paying for something that was made free long before steam even heard of cossacks.

I will re-create my original addon from scratch with the GOG files soon and release it here for the community.

I did not fully understand the other bug you reported. Could you explain a bit?

Thanks
