Hi, I just bought Cossacks Anyhology and I always end up with a blackscreen ater launching any of the 3 games, right after the videos. I can still hear the sound though and if I take a screenshot of the black screen and paste it in paint I can see the full menu with no issue (in paint).

Looks like it's refreshing rate issue but I'm not a pro...

Samsung N220
Intel Atom N450
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150
Win7 starter.
1024x768 - 60Hz

Anybody can help please? I can't wait to play this game :)

Hi,

After the intro UAC window should pop up and ask for permission to run the game.
I think, you should try to run the game as administrator.

Having the same issue. Running in admin mode does nothing. I also have the issue in American Conquest and a number of of other older 2D games (DIablo 1 and 2).

Running an AMD 6600m on a laptop which also has an integrated Intel HD 3000. Running the game with either GPU has the same issue.

I do notice that when I click the volume or brightness buttons on my latptop, I get a picture for as long as the little volume/brightness overlay appears on my screen. Once that disappears, the picture freezes. So theoretically, if I held the button down, I could play a choppy version of the game with a volume icon overlay spinning in the middle of the screen.

How do I fix this?
Same with me.
I am running it on a Samsung 10 inch laptop. I thought that screen size might be an issue.
Is there anyway to fix it.
OS: Windows 7 starter
Anyone figured out a way around this yet? It's frustrating to not even be able to run the thing.
I fixed the issue by reinstalling Windows XP. Works like a charm on first install.
I also have the black screen after the videos on startup (Windows 7 64 Bit). When I minimize the game, I can see the main screen for a second. Also, the music is playing.

Everywhere you go people tell you how to fix the colour problem with the video1 fix and the *.bat file to terminate explorer.exe. That is not the problem we are having.

The problem is this infernal black screen! I have it with both Cossacks and American Conquest :(
it works on windows 7 64 bits on my girlfriend's laptop (asus K52F), no need for a patch or other fix, works first time.

Like I said, try reinstalling XP.
Yeah, I've gotten both of them to work on Windows XP. However, I don't use Windows XP anymore, so using them on Windows 7 would be preferable.

I'm just really confused at what the problem is, especially because other people with Windows 7 don't exhibit any problems :S I wonder if it's the graphics card. Oh well :(
Problem solved!

Watch this video and follow the instructions exactly. The same problem happens for Red Alert 2. I did this to fix it (Red Alert 2) and it worked. I then thought "well, how about Cossacks and American Conquest?" and low and behold they work! So just follow the video. Cheers!

Thanks for that, it worked a treat!

Thought I'd review the process for those that want a checklist:

1. Right-Click On Your Desktop
2. Click on "Screen Resolution"
3. Click on "Detect"
4. Click on the 2nd display (usually a small greyed-out second screen)
5. Select "Display" to use built in graphics card (usually the second option in the list)
6. Select "Multiple Displays" to "Try to connect to VGA"
7. Press Monitor 2
8. Click "Apply"
9. Select "Multiple Displays" to "Extend these displays"
10. Click "Apply"
11. Click "Keep Changes" on dialog that appears
12. Click "OK"

Could you fix this? As i understand it's an easy fix for if you have two grafikcards, one built in the motherboad and one pci-e, i believe your laptop has just one graficcard built in like mine Samsung N150, same Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150. So if anyone knows something else i would be glad.

I tryed step 2 from here: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/American_Conquest#Game_doesn.27t_start
and i could see some of the game, not completly black anymore but still not good.
