This is a game with many delightful aspects, but I absolutely cannot recommend it in its current state, due to some nasty bugs. 1) The game has crashed-to-desktop 5 times in the two days that I've had it. 2) Character portraits frequently fail to load. 3) Changes to game settings can't be retained, as I usually do not get the option to save them before leaving the settings screen. 4) Twice now I have clicked to accept one mission, and been assigned a different one instead. Since the unwanted mission was one I was unable to perform, my only option was to cancel the mission, paying a hefty failure fine.

This is extremely frustrating to me because I believe I will like the game, once it is running properly. But right now, in its current state, my advice would be to hold off.

Agreed. To be honest this game should not have been sold on GOG in this state. They`d better fix it.

I too, experience random crashes about three or four times a play session.

I have also experienced crash to desktop, not too often though and they have always been after docking so everything was saved so that's something.

Never chose a mission and had something else assigned though fortunately.

I did notice first up that changes to the game settings such as sound do not work unless they come from the main menu.

A manual would be nice as there are still things in there I am not sure on that is not mentioned in the "tips".

Still thoroughly enjoying it though but there are a few issues which I am sure will be fixed. I'll keep playing it in the meantime though. Managed to get every item researched, I might venture out in another solar system soon.

It seems stupid you can't "save" to be able to FORK a gameplay. I like to play one way and then SAVE an alternate so I can fork my game, ie original stream continues and my new stream from that same game. There does not seem to be a way of doing this which is quite dumb. Sure you can start a new game but what if you want to fork ? :( :(

Try - depending on your PC setup and operating system - to find the Cosmonautica directory -> look in your users' directory for something like
C:\Users\YourUserNameGoesHere\Documents\My Games\Cosmonautica

There you will find your saved games in files named
saveslot0.sav
saveslot1.sav
etc...

If you copy them to another location on your PC you may move them back and continue the game with the old save file.

Or - if you have not yet used all your 6 save game slots - you can even copy one of these files and rename it. Then you have 2 copies of the same saved game. I tried it by
- starting a new sandbox game
- quit the game
- found the new saved game as saveslot1.sav in the Cosmonautica directory
- created a copy of saveslot1.sav and renamed it to saveslot2.sav
- start the game again and you will be able to choose either the game in slot 1 or 2... keeping your other saved game safe and untouched, ready for your "fork" session :-)
