To have the game up and running as it was 1998 do the following :
1 - downlod the setup.exe , Install the game with windows xp special pack 2 compatibility and as admin
2 - after install , set the same configuration for the exe of the game
3 - Run Nvidia Control panel ( if Nvidia ) and set a gaming profile for the game . If you have an ATI do the same as you'd do it on Nvidia.
And thats it. This was only what I had to do to have the game running with zero lag ( ingame and menus ) . As it was mentioned here , save the game a lot , as it crashes randomly when you least expect.
