In Corsairs, time is crucial. The longer it takes for you to have a strong and competitive fleet , the harder will be for you to conclude the missions. I'm leaving here some quick tips on how to have complete control of the seas you sail
1 - Your Corsair always starts with some funds and cargo. Sell the cargo rightway at the colony from which usually gives your first assignments . This will give you some gold to improve the colony or to build ships.
2 - Spies, your best friends. Sail to the principalities and assign spies for the merchant ships and pirates ( this last one won't help you mutch if you're Dutch ) . You have 8 slots, at least 4 for merchants the rest for the enemies . This not only will help you clearing the map, but also provide valuable info . Some ships are full of gold , others cargo or if you're lucky, both.
3 - Raid rightway merchant ships. transfer the gold to your corsair ( sell the cargo first if they have any ) .
4 - Sale to your main colony and level up the dock to the maximum. With the winnings you can build now a Brigantine or better
5 - More not always mean merrier. Having a fleet of 289 ships will won't help you at all. It can be a mess. if you're being attacked and you lose they'll turn against you and worse, inflict damage . So to avoid this, you'd rather have 5 or 6 Corvettes ( or Galleons ) than a large number of Brigantines
6 - Avoid destroying the enemy ships. Capture them instead. You can then move the loot to your ship and sell the ship or keep it if you think it's worth it.
7 - When you're attacking colonies or ships,if you're outnumbered, always try to surround the enemies. Don't send your sailors. Wait the computer to board the ship or step into the colony. As soon as the computer has the enemies boarding, ask your sailors to attack the middle. This way you can engage without having heavy loses and you'll separate the group , thus having advantage.
Hope it helps.
