I downloaded "Control Ultimate Edition" about a week ago. It's worked okay (a few minor hiccups), but just this morning it started asking if I wanted to use Direct X 11 or 12. Regardless of which one I selected, the screen would go to black before crashing back to my desktop. After a few futile searches for answers and an attempt to repair the installation, I'm having to reinstall the game. Admittedly, I may not have needed to do anything that drastic, but I got frustrated.

For future reference, has anyone experienced this problem and found a workaround that doesn't involve a 24+ hour reinstall? The first time I downloaded the game it took nearly 48 hours to install the enormous 26 GB file and I'd really rather not go through this a third time if I don't have to.
This has turned into quite the fiasco. As I said in my initial post, I may not have needed to uninstall Control, but I did. Well, in trying to reinstall it, the game didn't want to install at all. GOG kept telling me I had bad Internet and wouldn't even let me attempt the install. When I tried the alternative methods GOG provides, the files didn't want to download either. I kept getting failed downloads left and right on the numerous files they wanted me to download, even when I tried downloading them one at a time. Keep in mind, my Internet works just fine elsewhere, and my connectivity isn't the issue.

When I tried to uninstall the partial files GOG had downloaded, GOG gave me uninstall errors. I had to uninstall GOG entirely and manually delete the partial files that had been downloaded for Control, which was harder to find than it should have been. Now I've got GOG reinstalled, and I've got 18 of the 26 GB for Control downloaded, and my install seems permanently stuck at 66.7%.

I'm going to try pausing the download and restarting my computer to see if that clears up the jam, but I'm not optimistic about it.
I restarted and successfully installed Control, with one minor hiccup at 98%, where the install failed and I had to retry. Interestingly, it picked up right where I left off even though I thought I'd deleted the game entirely, including my saved games. Even when I went into the saved game file and deleted everything, it still kept my game. I have the same issue as others, with control points that are accessible when they shouldn't be, events not firing correctly, and "pressure crates" that are already opened when they shouldn't be. It's definitely buggy, but at least it's playable. It also didn't ask me to pick a Direct X version, which is what started this whole mess.
