I played this game for countless hours in my youth, many of which were spent in multiplayer games. Before I decide to buy it again here, I'd like to know if/how multiplayer works in this release. Do LAN games work? What about connecting over the Internet? Thanks in advance.

As long as you know someone to play with - you'll, most likely, be fine.
Internet games work through direct IP connection and the LAN option is left intact (though, to be honest, I haven't tried neither yet).

Haven't bought it yet, sorry :(.
As far as I know multiplayer has been removed from this version.
Current version options include the storyline campaign and free play only.
Indeed, there seems to be no multiplayer option in this version of Mob Rule although the manual still says there's IPX network play. Very disappointing - I really regret (re-)buying the game as the shitty single player campaign is not even mildly entertaining (and free play appears to have just one map!?).
It's not really understandable why GOG decided to remove from the game what is for many people the best part when even the original Constructor comes with its fantastic multiplayer mode.
Has anyone here actually played Contructor multiplayer?
I need some info please. I have the original disc version from years ago, when playing over LAN, the games go out of sync on each machine. DIfferent things happening on each machine, and for e.g., a house will be burning down on my enemies land and blow up. When I go and check that players PC, the house is standing there fine, it starts to burn later though.
Does this hapen in the GOG version at all?
For anyone wanting to know, i found this alleged fix on a blog, afaik edit the game's system.ini file like this:
[SYSTEM]
GammaPercent=0
DimPercent=55
TextLanguage=0
[FLAGS]
AlwaysShowFlic=No
AutoScroll=Yes
ScrollSpeed=3
PauseWait=No
CDFlics=No
IgnoreHelpMessages=Yes
PlayerName=something
GameName=My Game
Let us know if it helps, I'd still like to know if the GOG version is effected though.

I doubt the multiplayer has been removed, however the game likely try and detect if an IPX network is available, and if there isn't, removes the multiplayer option..
Now, since the game runs in DOSBox, IPX networking is per default disabled, however you CAN use IPX tunneling in DOXBox, but it's not really very easy to do if you don't know how to use DOSBox.
If there is a great wish for it, i might make a guide.

Yes, I did play multiplayer, last weekend. With the original constructor CD
For those who don't know you use dosbox.
- open de config file of dosbox,
- change: cycles = MAX and IPX = true.
Add the following 2 mount lines at the end of the file:
- "mount c c:\" (mount a drive in doxbox )
- "mount d x:\ -t cdrom" x is de cd-drive in windows with the constuctor CD
Start doxbox
- install constructor, take the smallest install (type "d:" then type "install")
- One computer types "ipxnet startserver"
- the others type "ipxnet connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (replace x's with ip of the host or hostname)
- start constructor ("c:" then "cd acclaim" then "cd cn", then "game")
OUT OF SYNC issue
- NEVER play with an AI in multiplayer. The game wil go out of sync. It's because the AI cheats!!!!
Thanks for the info but I'm pretty sure I didn't have an A.I. player at the time, I'll try it again sometime and confirm if I can.
I can't get the game to work online. Ipx is active (true) on dosbox.conf and I've started the server by entering the command ipxnet startserver on dosbox. My friends tried to connect (ipxnet connect ip - where "ip" is the hamachi ip) and it was successful on dosbox but in-game they couldn't find the session. On Play a Network Game the devices are all turned off and there is only a text box to input my name and the session's name. I do this and then click on New Game, select my color and wait but they can't find the game. Even if I wait for them to show up in-game to start a new game. Our OS is Windows 7 x64. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I've managed to solve this issue:

has anyone tried this? does it really fix? cause I'm getting desyncs when playing multiplayer with a buddy and 1 AI

(we'll try the fix later to see though)
In the manual it says it supports network/multiplayer games. The multiplayer option will appear in-game menu IF & ONLY IF IPX is installed/enabled.

Please install IPXwrapper.

http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/
i tested it and mob rule does not have multiplayer even with the ipx wrapper installed. it is not a problem for me as i still have the old disc version but, i suggest fixing the gog version to support multiplayer. i have played the disc version with the ipx wrapper and can confirm that it works.
