Ok here it is: there's an option on the Settings screen to restart the level I am in. Clicking on it brings up the start of the level screen, but that's that; it just continues the game from where you were.
Any ideas, other than starting the game from the first level all over again?

well i had the same problem so usually i make a separate save when ever i started a new level but maybe trying screwing up the mission like disobey the godfather or something then you can restart i guess

Yeah that's the only solution I found so far. But as a heads up to anyone out there, losing the mission (disobeying the godfather) sends you back to the first screen of the game, so that's a no go.
