I want to get it but not if it's nightmarishly difficult.

The original Constructor is very difficult. It's not only that the game is very fast paced and requires a lot of micro-management, it is also an old UI that lacks a lot of features that you would expect from more modern interfaces. The most obvious is the lack of an active pause (though that's not present in Kalypso's more modern games). So you have to be constantly checking up on everything, and being very methodical.

The game has frustrated many because of its difficulty, if you can get passed that then it's good fun. If you choose to go with it then there is a thread "Tips for constructor" which highlights some ways that allow you can tune the difficulty a bit.

I can't comment on Mob Rule, haven't got round to playing it.

wpegg got it tight, I'll only add that while Constructr is hard, Mob Rule takes it to a new level. In the latter, it has happened to me that I've bought a new plot, and even before I could select the "build" menu the AI dropped its building foundations all over it (all three at the same time, of course; it doesn't need to click anywhere and put down buildings one by one).
I recall there are workarounds to prevent this, but it's still very annoying.

seconded and camping or defending is not an option in mob rule cause the ai will make life hell in mob rule as the ai first gets to build the undesirables buildings which mean trouble, you can build those only after you take over the one built by the ai the same goes for resources :\ its a nightmare and you have to do what the godfather says specifically or else its a free snooze at the bottom of the lake

Well we all know Quake... Constructor has one difficulty level:

NIGHTMARE!

I remember it as a very hard and tough game. The first hours of the game are just getting used to it and trying to keep up with the AI...
