I picked this game up 7 or 8 years ago, fell in love with it, played it played it played it and talked about it to the point of being really annoying (like I normally am anyway). Eventually as my PC's got newer the game got harder and harder to play and it went back on the shelf. A few days ago when GOG put it out I freaked and ran around telling everyone to buy it, not having actually played it in years. Well I just bought and reinstalled the GOG version and it is even better than I remember. On paper this game does nothing to thrill me, but just seeing that first worm hole and hearing that radio chatter and seeing those simple, yes such cool looking ships, man, I'm as happy as a puppy with two peters!

You just pick it up? That post of mine is a few months old.

I played it way back in the day, but never finished it. I tried getting into Knights and Merchants last night but the complexity level fried my brain. Figured I'd need some good ole' Starship Frontier Wars to fix things up.

I picked up K&M on a ninja and the flaws in the game drove me insane making me think I'd gotten ripped off even though it was free. :P The thing is, someone heard me bitching about the problems and recommended the Settlers games and now that's virtually all I've been playing the last two months. Off topic there. Ooops.

Nope. Still on topic, you never said pointless adulation for what. =D

I really want to get into K&M but good god is it complicated. I guess Settler's a is more streamlined and less reminiscent of Dwarf Fortress? I had just finished Lords of the Realm series for the first time too and thought THAT was complicated.

Also: Conquest Frontier Wars - blam blam awesome.

OH, pointless adulation for Conquest. I was so jazzed to get back to it I decided just to make a thread about how much fun I was having hence pointless adulation.

Never played Dwarf Fortress. Settlers is K&M with MUCH BETTER design. Roads are easier to build, soldiers don't take meal breaks in the middle of battles and there is a lot more strategy involved. I'd go #3 but most will say #2. They're all good. I'm on #4 I got from Amazon. Speaking of which I've gotta get back to it. Later.
