WineHQ is listing it as garbage but that's pre-GOG. If anyone succeeds in getting it to run under wine I'd love to know - thanks!

listentoreason: WineHQ is listing it as but that's pre-GOG. If anyone succeeds in getting it to run under wine I'd love to know - thanks!
WineHQ now lists the GOG version with a [url=http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=28857]Silver rating (game works, video cutscenes don't play but can be skipped by pressing ESC, DirectInput Mouse input needs to be deselected (can be done from in-game options)).

CodeWeavers still lists it as not working on Mac/untested on Linux, but not sure if they've tried the GOG version.

Buoyed by that very same post on the WineHQ appDB I decided to give it a shot.

The game does indeed work quite well on my MacBook Air (2010, 10.9, 256 MB GeForce 320M), on Wineskin. But as reported, the cutscenes don't work; the offending files are the two .avi movies that are in /Data/Movies that need to be either deleted or renamed (in a matter reminiscent of Neverwinter Nights). Using the Indeo codecs installed through Winetricks didn't work. On my Mac, I also needed to enable the Native Mac driver.

The engine I used was the Wine 1.5.31X engine (which so far has been the most stable version of Wine I've seen so far in my testing). Trying to run the game on 1.7.8 gave me a "Conquest cannot run on this graphics card" error.

Great, thanks. Thanks also for the observations on 1.7 vs 1.5, that's useful to know. Marked as solved.
Although this topic has been marked solved I'd like to add the following (since I am on a mac but the problem got solved only partially: still NO sound):

Build a wrapper for the PC version of the Galaxy Client. Download the client and then the game. Open up your programs folder and then Galaxy Client. Navigate to the Games map and find your Conquest map. Open the conquest.ini file with teksteditor. Find the line: IRenderPipeline = RendSft and change RendSft to Rend0. (Duplicate the original in case this won't work.) The game should start up. Go to options and uncheck the *enable direct input* option, in case your cursor behaves weird. The game should work fine now.

By the way: play the game within the client...
