Arctodus: Steam wins again

Wins what?
Another forum troll award?
I can choose between renting this for $4.99 on Steam or buying it for $15.99 at GOG.com
Not much of a choice for me as I prefer to buy my games, not to rent them.
Especially when I have the option of downloading it with a browser instead of through a IMO bloated piece of software.
When I buy it, I can decide what to do with it, where to install it and when to play.
I have full control over it.

No, I think you win the forum troll award.
The Steam version of BEL and BTCOD runs wild on new PCs – if you have an old PC you will do fine but then Steam is not for such PCs it requires at least Win XP. The GOG version is patched and ready to run at normal speeds on modern PCs. Take a look at the Steam forums there are so many complaints on the Commando games not working on Win XP, Vista and 7! Yes there are patches available via the forum but still this makes me wonder whether it is such a good deal and then the need to spend so much time mending the software in order to play the game? Recently GOG made a discount on these games of 30%.
PS in Europe the Steam Commandos package is EUR 4,99 and is not in USD. Finally the last episode Strike Force is missing from the Steam bundle.

I bought the pack on Steam and would highly recommend you avoid it. As mentioned, there are many problems with it, including the game speed being too fast, but also with not being able to save with configuring. Worth spending the extra bit to get the GOG version I reckon!

No trolling from my side here as renting is the correct term when it comes to Steam.
If it would be buying one would own the product and have full control over it.
In such a case one doesn't need things like activation, 3rd party products to run it, etc.
At any given time Steam can decide I can't play the game anymore, can't download it anymore etc.

I personally don't mind the way Steam works for modern games, but the way they release old games is just awful. Usually it's just some retail package, often not even patched to the latest version. Also, I've never seen any of the old games offered on Steam fixed for new systems like GOG.com does rather well.
I bought All 3 of the Commandos Games + expansions from gog.com during the holiday sale for 8 bucks, which in my currency should be around 6 euro (god bless gog.com fair prices, unlike steam)

the pack currently costs 14 euro on steam

So yeah, 6 euro for all 3 Commandos games, DRM free + goodies + Win7 compatible

I guess OP and steam aren't so high and mighty now huh?

That's what I'm talking about. So did I. Nice and inexpensive, DRM free, and supporting other gamers who understand what we want. The only thing cool about steam is TF2 and I didn't even originally buy it there. I'll always support this site over there.
