with it you can play Commandos 2 (1 + 3 will follow soon I hope) in all the 1080p HD glory it deserves (DirectX 11 required). also, no more resolution switching while opening/closing menus.

I found it this weekend and tried it with my brother in multiplayer and it rocks!

download, install (you need to adjust the location to your Commandos 2 folder) and go rock this awesome game again.

There is one downside for non-english (and non-italian) users though: the patch automatically converts the game to english only language (or italian if you chose that on the website) and since it also changes the game file locations to some extend you can't use language patches like the (german) one from valid strategies after installing the HD Mod.

If you are like me and prefer your original language voice overs (german version sounds far better than the english one imo) you need to install the game normally via gog and use the language(-patch) you want, like this one for german: https://www.validstrategies.com/filebase/file/113-commandos-2-men-of-courage-german-language-pack-g%C3%A4ste-link/
you then need the PCK extractor to access the game files: https://commandoshq.net/Files/2MOC/PCK_Extractor.zip (sorry for hotlinking)
extract DATA.PCK and DATA2.PCK in one and the same folder somewhere outside your Commandos folder. then install the HD Project normally. it will extract the DATA archives inside Commandos 2 and overwrite it with the english ones, click yes if it asks to overwrite. go to the folder where you unpacked the DATA PCKs from your language beforehand and copy INTERFAZ, SONIDOS and STR folders to .../Commandos 2/DATA

you will get all Sound (Briefing, Commandos Talk) and some text (some menus, tooltips, names, the little manual ingame) in your language. theres no way to overwrite other stuff without breaking the 1080p graphics because the text is sometimes hardcoded in the images.

I could repack and upload the german INTERFAZ, SONIDOS and STR folders for easier installation (no pck extractor, just download, extract and copy over after installing HD MOD) but I'm having really slow internet at my place (yes, i'm obviously from germany and the "internet" is a totally new thing here) but maybe i get the chance while back in university next week.

it seems like the author forgot some text strings in MP menus (they are in italian, i think?) but you can just click your way through and play anyway :)

Yeah, I was considering they might be blocked from sale in their country but figured it wouldn't hurt to take a swing and post the URLs in case they weren't.

Just installed. SO far it works and looks great, though you'll need to sit close to the monitor because those guys are REALLY REALLY small at higher res. :P

i just heard about this mod and tried downloading it from the link in the first post.

However, the said link (which appears to be the official link) is dead and the installation file is not available for download. Can any kind soul who has the setup file please upload it/provide a working link. Thanks.

But i have a other problem... I can't start it anymore everytime this pops up directly after starting it:

Commandos BEL HD Project.exe or Commandos 2 HD Project.exe has stopped working.


Both downloaded on 5th may and played the first mission at C1 AND C2 and everything worked fine.
Then i had no time for it until 19th may and since then this happens. I tried sooo many things and the only thing that changed was Windows updates and Nvidia Updates... Does anybode else have this problem with Up2date Windows 10 64bit (1803) and Nvidia Drivers?

I tried:
Reinstalling
Start as Admin
Start with different Compatibility modes
Start as Admin And with different Compatibility modes
Disabled and enabled DirectPlay again.

I also wrote an email to Stankan but no Answer on the revora forums he is inactiv too :(

Well, the effort is nice but somehow the mod runs the game in 1080p by stretching the image so it looks like a blurry mess and that makes it pretty terrible.

Why did they actually make internal resolution only 1280x960?
I got the answer testing this widescreen patch, I think the game just doesn't work in higher resolutions.

It also says here:
Very high resolutions may not function properly with this game.

And why did they even choose a 4:3 resolution? I think it's because original game has 4:3 resolutions, and so they made it bigger than 1024x768, and then they rescale it to 1920x1080 and crop top and bottom to 16:9.

With widescreen patch, 1600x900 and 1920x1080 work, but there are some artifacts when scrolling the map.
Highest that works without problems is 1366x768.
There is also another problem, you have to wait 13s everytime you press ESC to go into the menu and same when you want to get back into the game.
You can fix that with dgVoodoo 2, then ESC only takes 1s. But artifacts on 1600x900 and 1920x1080 are still there.

EDIT:
I now compared HD Project with widescreen patch at 1280x720 and 1600x900.
They don't crop anything, it really is 1280x960, just stretched horizontally. Just awful.
And the image is brightened for no obvious reason.

Long story short, just download dgVoodoo 2, widescreen patch and copy the 1366x768 exe. I don't think it can get much better than that without a full remake.

Maybe a stupid question, but I will ask it, anyway - Does it work on GOG version of the game?

Asking cause I have seen mods and patches for games that are available on GOG, but the installer does not recognize those versions (Like Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault).
