I purchased this game hoping for a similar experience to the Close Combat series. It may be my bias for usability, but although I recognize it as a similar style game, I was unable to begin enjoying it due to the clunky, non-standard interface. This is to be expected from older games, but for this particular game I couldn't get past it, so it gets 2 stars from me. I am interested in trying the later games in the series to see if this has been improved, and I recommend giving this one a shot if you have the patience to master the controls.
Clunky? Seems pretty easy to me. Simpler than some other wargames I've played.
It is problematic and slows you down.

How so? You right click and give commands. It is not an RTS clickfest.
It just takes a lot of time to issue all orders. Hotkeys are static or is there a way to adjust them? Many of them are out of order, for instance Esc. minimized the application. Mouse scroll and rotation speed is low.

There would be nothing wrong with a good UI.
Great necro!

First Gen CM games use the same interface. Then they changed it. In CM Shock Force it got worse, the commands were spread over three different tabs, and the keyboard shortcuts were bugged. Ten patches later the interface still was atrocious.
