Hi,

Say I want to attack and I have a number of units. Is it possible to "stack" them and get them to attack together?

I have a vague memory of this option, but I can't find how to do it - if it's possible anyway.

Hmm, maybe in Windows version, but not in this DOS version.

No, units don't attack in a stack, except for artillery in a fort when it opens fire on ships. It is still useful to have multiple units because of randomness of combat in this game.
