Need some help - THX!!!
A bit of clarification on a few things I consider important, before the track names list:

1) The names in the Artists field of the mp3 info are not the original composers; this should be obvious in the case of the non-game-original, period folk/traditional songs, but it is also true for the original music.

Anthony Putson and Allister Brimble (the names in the MP3 info), were the ones to make the arrangements and perform the music for the Amiga version. If they actually performed the versions from the GOG soundtrack download is unknown to me, but I doubt it. The tracks are certainly not recordings of the Amiga music; which you can listen to if you search online for them.

The intro music (track 1), for example, which people will recognize if they have played Civ 1, was originally composed by Dr. Jeffery L. Briggs (a.k.a. Jeff Briggs) who is the author of a lot of the music from MicroProse games, was a friend of Sid Meier, and later co-founded Firaxis. I'm almost certain that the DOS version arrangements are also his, and maybe from a couple of other musicians at MicroProse (but I do not have any source to quote).

Tracking down all the correct arrangement credits for these songs might be almost impossible.

2) The songs in the downloadable soundtrack goodie sound pretty bad. I assume they are the extracted and converted audio tracks from the Windows version CD.

Some are decent, others seem to be recorded from General MIDI with a crappy soundfont, and others even seem to have the wrong tempo. If you enjoy the game's music, get yourself VirtualMIDISynth, a good soundfont, and record the output of the actual DOS version music (some also sound good or better in MT-32, for which you can use Munt). Some of the Amiga version songs are also very good (but not all in my opinion).

3) There is some of the game's music that is not present in the soundtrack goodie: the European nations' anthems, and the song "Hole in the Wall", for example.

In the DOS version "GAME\Pick Music" menu option, the songs named "York Fusiliers" and "Indepencence Way" seem to be the same. Knowing the actual "York Fusiliers" tune, that is the one that is wrong.

---

Now for the track list names. Names for 2 to 13, and 15 to 25 were taken from "Pick Music". As far as I know track 1 does not have a proper name ("Intro Theme" seems to be the consensus), track 14 is the music that plays when you encounter Fountain of Youth rumors, and track 26 plays on the cutscene when you win by independence. A side note: track 11 ("Tenochtitlan", name of the Mexica/Aztec Empire capital, located where now is Mexico city) has the same tune as the song used for the Aztecs in Civilization (1 & 2 at least).

1- Intro Theme
2- Jine the Cavalry
3- Bonny Morn
4- Natives
5- Smoky Tune
6- Love Forever
7- Indian Victory
8- Bird Song
9- Shady Grove

Phew man - that is a really the most complete answer I've seen! THX a lot.

I compared the mp3s with the mod files (amiga). Not so easy to find the similarities but you have explained why this isn't an easy task.

For me, I just wanted to add the music to my library with proper names (and artist - thats still a task to do). Added the original as composers so far.

Hopefully GOG will do some effort to provided these kind of information within the id3/ogg tags next time.
