Where exactly is the dosbox.conf file I must edit to have Col start up with sound off?
Out of curiosity; why not just run the Install program instead?

~/Sid Meiers Colonization/data/MPS/COLONIZE/Install.exe

I'm using the GoG dosbox. My understanding is that Col won't run on win 7 native.

The game runs fine, I;m just nitpicking a little trying to get it to start without sound (people say it's easy, but my efforts to do as they do have failed).

I've pointed you to exactly where and what to run. You can just drag the installer onto a generic DOSbox shortcut.

There's a file called dosboxCOL.conf on the GOG Colonization install folder (see attached screenshot).

I opened it with Notepad++ and changed line 99 to nosound=true and line 115 to mididevice=none

This did the trick and opened Colonization without sound (it stops sound emulation altogether and cannot be enabled in-game).

ConsulCaesar: nosound=true and mididevice=none
I had nosound=true already, and changing mididevice=none did the trick . Thanks!
